Embark’s published processing estimate depends on the test: Breed ID, Breed + Health, Purebred, and Breeder Kits take 2–4 weeks; the Age Test can take up to 5 weeks; and the Gut Health Test takes 2–3 weeks. The clock starts when the sample reaches Embark’s lab—not when you order or mail the kit—and shipping time is separate. If tracking says the swab arrived but MyEmbark still says “Awaiting Return,” allow up to two business days for the lab to scan it before troubleshooting further.
Embark result timelines by test
Embark Support’s published guidance in 2026 gives different processing windows for its tests. These are company estimates, not independently measured averages or a promise that every result will be ready by a particular date.

| Test | Embark’s stated processing time | When the estimate starts |
|---|---|---|
| Breed ID, Breed + Health, Purebred, and Breeder Kits | 2–4 weeks | When the sample is received at Embark’s lab |
| Age Test | Up to 5 weeks | When the sample is received at Embark’s lab |
| Gut Health Test | 2–3 weeks | When the sample is received at Embark’s lab |
The processing estimate excludes the time needed to return the sample to the lab. Embark says the lab begins processing once it receives the sample. The delivery date shown by a carrier, the date a sample is scanned into Embark’s system, and the date processing begins are related but not necessarily the same event.
When comparing timelines, first identify which test you sent. Breed identification and health-related kits share the 2–4-week estimate, while the Age Test has a longer window of up to 5 weeks and Gut Health has a 2–3-week estimate. If you sent more than one type, do not assume both will appear in MyEmbark on the same day: the return instructions say DNA and Gut Health samples are processed at different labs.

How shipping changes the overall wait
Embark’s sample-return instructions, published in 2025, estimate 5–10 business days for return shipping within the United States and 15–20 business days for international samples, depending on the shipping address or destination. Those are transit estimates, not extra lab-processing time, and they should not be treated as guaranteed totals. Actual transit can vary.
To estimate your own wait, separate the timeline into two parts: transit to the lab, then the test’s stated processing window after lab receipt. If you only recently mailed the sample, the processing estimate has not necessarily started. Use the carrier tracking information to check its progress rather than counting from the kit purchase date or the day you put the envelope in the mail.
For example, a US customer waiting on a Breed + Health test should not assume that the 2–4-week lab estimate includes the return trip. The return-shipping estimate and processing estimate describe different stages; adding them can help set expectations, but it cannot predict an exact result date because shipping varies and the published windows are not guarantees. International customers should allow for the longer stated transit estimate, which is 15–20 business days depending on destination, before treating lab processing as underway.

Embark’s wording is specific: the processing timeline begins when the sample reaches its lab and does not factor in return shipping. That means the date you bought the kit, activated it, or handed it to a carrier is not the start date for the lab window. For a more useful check, note the carrier’s delivery scan, then look for the sample’s intake status in MyEmbark.
What to do when a sample seems delayed
1. Check whether the lab has had time to receive it
Start with the carrier’s tracking record. If it shows that the package is still moving, use the carrier’s latest scan and Embark’s stated transit estimates as context. If the package is beyond the relevant estimate, contact Embark Support with the tracking details. A package in transit cannot yet be counted as a sample received at the lab.

For US returns, Embark’s 2025 instructions give a 5–10-business-day arrival estimate. For international returns, the estimate is 15–20 business days and depends on destination. These estimates help you decide when a shipment may merit follow-up; they do not guarantee delivery by a specific date. Follow the return directions for your own kit and location, since international requirements differ.
2. Allow time for the intake scan
When the carrier shows delivery but MyEmbark still displays “Awaiting Return,” Embark says a swab may take up to 2 business days after reaching its facility to be scanned. Check the account again after that interval. A temporary mismatch between carrier tracking and the account does not, by itself, establish that the sample is lost or that testing has failed.
Keep the distinction between delivery and scanning in mind: a carrier’s delivered status says the shipment reached its destination, while the account may not yet reflect the lab’s intake scan. If the status is still unchanged after the two-business-day scan window, move on to checking the profile and account details, then contact Embark if the status remains unexplained.
3. Look at the sample stage in MyEmbark
Open the relevant dog profile in MyEmbark and review the sample’s current stage and any estimated readiness information shown there. Embark provides status updates by email to customers who have opted in, and results are accessed through the account. Check the inbox associated with the kit as well as the account; a status email can be easy to overlook or may be sent to a different address than the one you usually check.
Use the account’s current status to decide what to do next rather than interpreting silence alone. If the sample is shown as received or processing, compare its status with the processing window for that particular test, counted from lab receipt. If the account identifies a failed sample, follow the replacement path rather than waiting for a result from that swab.

Think of the process in stages: the sample may still be in transit; delivered but awaiting scan; scanned and processing; flagged as failed; or ready with results available in the account. The appropriate next step depends on the stage. For example, a delivered package that has not yet been scanned calls for patience through the intake window, while an explicit failure notice calls for following replacement instructions.

4. Confirm activation, dog profile, and sign-in
Check that the kit was activated and associated with the correct dog profile. Embark says a kit that has not been attributed to a dog cannot be processed. Also make sure you are signed in using the email account used to create or activate the kit; an incorrect account can make the sample status or results appear to be missing even when the right profile exists elsewhere.
If more than one dog profile appears in the account, verify that you are looking at the profile connected to this kit. Do not assume that a kit will automatically attach itself to the profile you intended. If activation or attribution is unclear, use Embark’s support route to resolve the account association. This check can distinguish an account mix-up from an actual lab delay.
5. Review how the sample was returned
Embark’s return instructions tell US customers to use the provided return envelope or label and to send samples separately. If you are returning both a DNA sample and a Gut Health sample, keep them separate: Embark says they are processed at different labs. Mixing or combining the returns can complicate identifying which sample is in transit or has arrived.
International returns have different shipping requirements and longer stated transit estimates than US returns. Follow the instructions supplied for the kit and destination rather than assuming that a US return label or transit estimate applies. If tracking is unavailable or the instructions for your location are unclear, contact Embark for guidance specific to the shipment.

6. Follow the failed-sample instructions if Embark flags a problem
A failed swab is different from a sample that is simply taking time to move through the process. Embark identifies insufficient DNA, contamination, and incorrect or changed sex details as possible reasons a sample may fail. It says it can issue a free replacement. If MyEmbark or a support message says the sample failed, follow the replacement instructions provided for that case; repeatedly waiting for the original swab will not produce a result from a sample that cannot be processed.
Do not treat a failure as proof that you made a particular mistake. The listed causes are possibilities, and the status or support message for your kit is the relevant guide. The replacement path is different from buying another kit: Embark says it can provide a free replacement for a failed sample, so check the case instructions before taking action.
7. Contact Embark when the published windows no longer fit
Contact Embark Support if tracking has exceeded the stated arrival estimate, the account status remains unexplained after the intake-scan period, or the applicable processing window has passed without a result or useful status update. Include the dog profile or kit information requested by support and relevant carrier tracking details so the team can identify the sample. The public guidance does not establish why any particular sample is delayed, so only Embark can investigate an individual case.
Before reaching out, it can help to have the test type, carrier tracking status, approximate delivery date, MyEmbark status, and the email account used to activate the kit at hand. These details help frame the issue—whether the package is still traveling, was delivered but not scanned, or appears to be in processing—without assuming the cause in advance.

No. Embark Support says its lab handles samples on a first-delivered, first-served basis and cannot expedite a specific swab. The company says processing requires laboratory examination and error checks. Contacting support can help clarify a stalled status, missing activation, shipping issue, or failed sample, but it should not be treated as a way to move an individual sample ahead in the queue.

That policy applies even if a result is needed by a particular date. A support inquiry is useful for resolving a status or account problem, but Embark’s published guidance does not offer an individual rush option or promise a faster result after contact.
How to interpret the timeline without overreading it
- Count from lab receipt: The test-specific processing window begins when Embark’s lab receives the sample, not when the kit is purchased or mailed.
- Keep transit and processing separate: Embark’s shipping estimates describe travel time; the test ranges describe processing after receipt. Neither guarantees an exact arrival or result date.
- Distinguish delivery from scanning: A carrier delivery scan can precede the account’s intake update by up to two business days.
- Use the account status: MyEmbark and opted-in email updates are the relevant places to check sample progress and results.
- Treat a failure notification differently from a delay: A flagged failed sample may need replacement rather than more waiting.
- Match the timeline to the product: Breed ID, Breed + Health, Purebred, and Breeder Kits have a 2–4-week estimate; Age is up to 5 weeks; Gut Health is 2–3 weeks.
- Do not count shipping days as lab days: The US and international arrival estimates are separate from the processing ranges and can vary by location.
Embark’s public support guidance gives expected time ranges and troubleshooting steps, but it does not provide an independent statistic for how long samples actually take on average. Without the individual account status or confirmation from Embark, a delay cannot be diagnosed from the calendar alone.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to receive my dog’s Embark test results?
Embark’s published processing estimates are 2–4 weeks for Breed ID, Breed + Health, Purebred, and Breeder Kits; up to 5 weeks for the Age Test; and 2–3 weeks for Gut Health. The clock starts when the sample reaches the lab, and return shipping time is separate.

Not necessarily reflected in MyEmbark right away. Embark says it can take up to 2 business days after a swab reaches its facility to be scanned. Check the account again after that interval; if the status is still unexplained, verify the dog profile and account used to activate the kit, then contact Embark Support.
Can Embark expedite my results?
Embark says it processes samples first delivered, first served and cannot expedite an individual swab. Support may help resolve a shipping, status, activation, or failure issue, but contacting the company does not move a sample ahead in the processing queue.
What if Embark says my swab failed?
Follow the replacement instructions in MyEmbark or the support message. Embark lists insufficient DNA, contamination, and incorrect or changed sex details among possible failure causes, and says it can issue a free replacement. Waiting longer for a failed original swab is not a substitute for following that process.
When should I contact Embark about a delayed kit?
Contact Embark if the shipment is beyond the stated arrival estimate, the MyEmbark status remains unexplained after the two-business-day scan period, or the processing window for your test has passed without a result or useful update. Include relevant tracking and kit details so support can identify the sample.

The Bottom Line
Embark’s lab-processing estimate ranges from 2–3 weeks for Gut Health to up to 5 weeks for the Age Test, with common breed and health kits listed at 2–4 weeks. Count from lab receipt, not purchase or mailing; allow up to two business days for intake scanning after delivery. If the window passes, check MyEmbark, activation, and tracking, then contact Embark Support. A failed-sample notice follows a replacement path, and individual samples cannot be expedited.
