Maxie arrived in foster care with one eye, an infected stomach wound, rotted teeth and cat flu. Her foster family expected to help temporarily; instead, after seeing how much care she needed, they adopted her. Now she is playful, closely attached to her people and very particular about how they serve her meals.
How Maxie came into foster care
In a story published by Cats.com on June 28, 2026, Katelynn Sobus recounts how Maxie’s future owner had considered fostering or adopting for years. When a rescue group asked for help with Persians and Exotic Shorthairs reportedly dumped by a breeder in poor condition, she responded. The rescue described Maxie as one-eyed and very sick.

Her foster initially thought she would provide temporary help. About a week and a half later, when another person expressed interest in Maxie, the foster realized she wanted to adopt her instead.

The story reports that Maxie weighed 2.2 kg (around 4.8 pounds) during recovery. Her family spoon-fed her to help her gain weight; after she had gained enough, most of her teeth were removed. These are details of Maxie’s individual story, not general feeding or surgical advice.
Maxie’s life as the household “princess”
Maxie is now playful and more independent than she was while ill, but she still needs substantial care. The story says she refuses to eat from a bowl and prefers to be spoon-fed every meal. She expects breakfast on time, announces trips to the litter box and asks her people to brush her coat.

A foster who became family
Maxie’s family jokes that they had not wanted children, “but now we have ended up with a baby!” The line captures the affection behind her demanding routines: her people describe her as the boss of the house, and they consider the time and attention worthwhile.
