When weight or health changes the decision
Do not try to make a cat lose weight simply by cutting a maintenance food’s portion without veterinary input. AAHA warns that reducing a maintenance ration can leave a cat short of vitamins or minerals; veterinary weight-loss diets are designed to reduce calories while retaining nutrient adequacy.
