There is no single price for cat teeth cleaning: the total depends on your location, clinic, your cat’s health and dental condition, and whether treatment such as extractions is needed. Recent clinic examples range from a U.S. procedure estimate of $575–$675 to a U.K. teaching-hospital fee of £565 for assessment, scaling and polishing. Those figures cover different services and currencies, so they are not direct comparisons or guaranteed bills.

Why is my cat’s dental estimate so high?
A professional dental procedure is more than removing visible tartar. The team assesses the mouth, takes dental images, probes around teeth, cleans above and below the gumline, polishes, and treats disease when indicated. AAHA notes that more than 50% of a tooth’s structure lies below the gumline and is visible only on X-rays. AAHA dental care guidance
The 2025 FelineVMA guideline says assessment under anesthesia is necessary for radiography and treatment, making anesthesia an essential component of feline dentistry. It also describes complete intraoral radiography as a minimum for appropriate care. 2025 FelineVMA dental guidelines
#1 Best Overall
- Complete oral care system: enzymatic toothpaste plus toothbrush cleans teeth and fights bad breath in one kit
- Reduces plaque & tartar buildup: patented enzyme formula works without rinsing required
- Malt-flavored formula cats tolerate well: makes at-home brushing easier to stick with
- Everything needed to start a dental routine: ideal for new puppies, kittens, or first-time brushers
- Formulated specifically for pets: non-foaming, no-rinse enzymatic formula that's safe if swallowed
Costs vary with clinic location and overhead, the severity of dental disease, your cat’s overall health, and what the examination reveals. Diseased or loose teeth may need treatment or extraction; a cat with other health concerns may need additional testing or anesthetic support.
What can be included—or charged separately?
Clinics do not all package dental services the same way. Depending on the estimate, these items may be included or billed separately:
Rank #2
- Delious Chicken flavored Cat Toothpaste: Formulated specifically with your cat's preferences in mind
- Pre-anesthetic bloodwork and other testing
- Anesthesia, monitoring and medications
- IV catheter and fluids
- Full-mouth dental X-rays, examination and charting
- Scaling below the gumline and polishing
- Pain relief, recovery or hospitalization
- Extractions or other treatment discovered during the procedure
For example, the Humane Society of Huron Valley’s 2026 estimate separates bloodwork, hospitalization, IV support and extraction charges from its procedure price. Ask your own clinic which items its quote includes, rather than assuming that a headline fee covers the entire visit.
How much do cat tooth extractions cost?
There is no single extraction price: the total depends on the clinic, number of teeth, treatment required and the way the clinic bills. In the United States, Humane Society of Huron Valley lists oral-surgery time at $330 per hour ($5.50 per minute) in its 2026 estimate. In the United Kingdom, the Royal Veterinary College’s March 2, 2026 price list gives extraction add-ons of £465 for 1–4 teeth, £670 for 5–9, and £825 for 10 or more. These are clinic-specific examples using different pricing approaches, not interchangeable rates.

How to compare estimates
Request written, itemized estimates with low and high totals. Compare quotes with similar scope—especially anesthesia and monitoring, full-mouth X-rays, and how extractions are handled. Ask the clinic to explain what could move the bill toward the high end and how it will seek your approval if additional treatment is recommended.
- Ask whether pre-anesthetic bloodwork, anesthesia, monitoring, IV catheter and fluids, and recovery are included.
- Confirm whether full-mouth dental X-rays are included and taken during the procedure.
- Ask whether the fee covers a full examination and charting, periodontal probing, scaling below the gumline, and polishing.
- Find out how extractions or other treatment are priced if disease is found, and whether the clinic will contact you before exceeding the estimate.
- Check whether medications, hospitalization and follow-up visits are separate charges.
- Ask how your cat’s age, medical conditions or test results could change the plan and cost.
Only the treating veterinary practice can provide an estimate for your cat. A clinic can explain its likely plan based on the examination and revise it if findings during the procedure call for additional care.

Is an anesthesia-free cleaning a comparable option?
No. A surface-only service without anesthesia is not equivalent to a full veterinary dental procedure. AAHA explains that without anesthesia, veterinary teams cannot safely take dental X-rays, probe for disease or clean where infection occurs. A cleaner-looking tooth surface does not establish that disease beneath the gumline has been assessed or treated.
Can home care reduce the need for professional cleaning?
Daily brushing can support your cat’s oral care, but it does not replace veterinary assessment, X-rays or treatment. AAHA recommends a soft, pet-specific toothbrush and pet-specific toothpaste; never use human toothpaste, which can be toxic to pets. A cat toothbrush and toothpaste kit is a home-care aid, not a way to perform a professional cleaning or guarantee lower future bills. AAHA home-care guidance

Will pet insurance or a wellness plan cover it?
Some wellness plans cover dental cleanings, while traditional accident-and-illness insurance usually does not cover routine dental care. Coverage depends on the policy, so check its current written terms directly with the provider. PetMD discusses this distinction in its cat teeth cleaning cost guide.
