The eight models in Cats.com’s September 2025 roundup cover different use cases, but they are not interchangeable—and an automatic feeder is not a substitute for checking on a cat in person.
What the eight feeders are designed to do
Cats.com published this lineup on September 24, 2025, identifying a pick for each of seven categories and an overall choice. The descriptions below reflect that article, not a new hands-on test or confirmation of current specifications. The page reports 1,250 hours of research, 50 brands vetted, seven features reviewed, and seven picks; those are Cats.com’s own figures.

For scheduled dry-food meals
Hopper models in this lineup—the Petlibro One, Petlibro Granary, Petory Timed 10S, and WOPET—are dry-food options. The Granary is the app-dependent choice in this group; the Petory adds slow-feed intervals and a short recorded message, while the WOPET was selected for its reported larger hopper. The Petlibro One adds RFID access control, but requires the cat to wear a tag.

Before choosing a hopper, confirm that its portion settings suit your cat’s feeding plan and the food you use. Cats.com notes that the Granary describes portions rather than a volume measurement, so do not assume that a setting labeled as a portion equals a particular weight or calorie count.
For wet food, treats, or medication
The PetLibro Polar is the lineup’s wet-food option with a cooling system. Cats.com describes it as keeping meals fresh for up to 72 hours, but that claim should not be treated as a guarantee for every food, room temperature, or use condition. The Cat Mate C500 and PetSafe Eatwell use rotating compartments rather than a hopper; the source describes the Cat Mate as suitable for different food types and the Eatwell as usable for food, treats, or medication. The Eatwell has no cooling packs, while the Cat Mate comes with ice packs.

For cats that eat too quickly
The Petory Timed 10S was the roundup’s fast-eater pick because it supports slow-feed intervals. Confirm how its current programming defines those intervals and portions; a slower dispensing pattern is not, by itself, a veterinary solution for every cause of rapid eating.

When access control matters more than scheduling
RFID and microchip feeders solve a different problem from timed dispensers. The Petlibro One uses RFID access control as well as direct programming. The SureFeed Microchip Cat Feeder is described as opening for a paired microchip or RFID tag, making it relevant when one pet needs a separate diet or another cat is stealing food. Cats.com says the SureFeed does not program scheduled meals, so it should not be mistaken for a timer-based feeder.

For either type of access-controlled model, check what identification method it supports and whether your cat needs to wear a tag. Access restriction can help separate pets at mealtimes, but it does not measure whether the intended cat actually ate an appropriate amount.
Compare capacity, power, cleaning, and app dependence
- Capacity: The 2025 article reports 5 L (about 21 cups) for the Granary hopper and 7 L (about 29 cups) for the WOPET hopper. The Cat Mate and Eatwell use five rotating compartments; the SureFeed is described as limited in capacity. These figures and descriptions come from Cats.com and should be verified against current product instructions.
- Power: The Petlibro One is described as having dual power with a rechargeable battery, the Granary as having a backup battery, and the Petory as dual-powered. The Eatwell uses four D batteries and the Cat Mate relies on batteries alone; the source says those batteries are sold separately for both. Confirm what batteries or backup power are required for any model you consider.
- Connectivity: Cats.com describes the Granary as app-only for programming. If you do not want feeding schedules to depend on an app or WiFi, prioritize a model with direct controls and verify how it behaves if connectivity is interrupted.
- Cleaning: The WOPET article recommends hand-washing. The descriptions provided for the other models do not establish a full cleaning method for every component, so check which parts can be removed, how they should be cleaned, and whether they must be fully dry before use.
- Food storage: The Granary is described as sealed and supplied with desiccant. That does not make all dry food impervious to humidity or staleness; follow the food and feeder makers’ storage directions.
Plan for failures and time away
Cats.com warns that automatic feeders can overfeed or fail to dispense food. A scheduled setting is not proof that a meal was delivered, and backup power does not eliminate the possibility of a jam or other malfunction. Set up the feeder while you are home, watch several scheduled meals dispense, and confirm that the amount delivered matches the intended setting. Keep the food path and dish clean, and check for reliable operation as part of the cat’s routine.

For a long absence, arrange for a person to check the cat, the food and water, and the feeder. Cats.com presents the WOPET as a long-absence pick while also framing a feeder as a complement to in-person care, not a replacement. The same practical caution applies to any model: a device cannot respond to illness, a blocked dispenser, or a change in the cat’s condition.
How to interpret this roundup today
The models and categories above belong to Cats.com’s September 2025 article, “The 8 Best Automatic Cat Feeders – We Tested Them All.” Cats.com later published a separate 13-product comparison, last updated September 4, 2026, with a different lineup and overall pick. Cats.com’s later comparison summarizes the purpose of feeders this way: “Automatic cat feeders let you control your cat’s food intake whether you’re home or away.” That is a description of the intended convenience, not a guarantee that every meal dispenses correctly or that a cat’s intake is automatically monitored.
