Whisker’s current premium litter for Litter-Robot is sold as Lit, the new name for GreatLitter. Whisker says the October 2026 rebrand did not change the formula: it remains naturally sun-dried sodium bentonite clay. More importantly for the robot, Whisker recommends standard-weight clumping clay litter for its sifting system, making Lit a manufacturer-recommended option—not an independently proven top performer.
What is Litter-Robot Premium Cat Litter called now?
Whisker announced on October 1, 2026 that GreatLitter was being reintroduced as Lit, with the formula unchanged. The company describes it as a single-ingredient litter made from naturally sun-dried sodium bentonite clay. Older product pages and references may still use the GreatLitter name. Whisker’s rebrand announcement is the source for the name change and ingredient description.

In that announcement, Whisker listed 20-pound bags starting at $30 and said Lit was available exclusively in the U.S. through Litterbox.com, Whisker.com, and Litter-Robot.com. Those are announcement-time price and sales-channel details, not a guarantee of current availability or price.

Does Lit work in a Litter-Robot?
Yes. Whisker names Lit as an example of the high-quality, standard-weight clumping clay litter it recommends for Litter-Robot 4, Litter-Robot 5, and Litter-Robot EVO. The reason is mechanical: Litter-Robot sifts used litter from clean litter, so clumping behavior and litter weight matter. Lit fits the category Whisker recommends, but the available evidence is Whisker’s own product guidance; it does not establish that Lit performs better than other compatible clumping clay litters.
What does Whisker claim about Lit’s performance?
The product page under the GreatLitter name describes the litter as naturally unscented, quick-clumping, low dust, and low tracking. These are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements or findings from a comparative test. Whisker’s page displayed a rating of 4.3 out of 5 from 5,153 global reviews when accessed October 7, 2026; ratings and review counts can change and are not an independent product test. For your own comparison, consider whether a candidate litter clumps firmly and has standard weight, whether its color or particles could affect the robot’s sensors, and what is disclosed about scent and ingredients. Treat dust and tracking descriptions as vendor claims unless supported by independent measurements. Compare bag size and price at the time you buy rather than relying on an older listed starting price.

Can you use crystal or plant-based litter instead?
Whisker says some silica gel beads or crystals may work if they pass through the screen. Physical fit is not the only consideration, though: translucent or white litter can affect litter-level and Drawer Full Indicator accuracy. A litter that sifts through may therefore still be a poor choice if its appearance interferes with readings.

Whisker says plant-based litters typically do not filter properly through the sifting system. It also lists strictly absorbent, non-clumping or loose-clumping litters, newspaper-based litter, and absorbent wood pellets as unsuitable. Check your specific model’s official litter guidance if you are considering a material outside standard-weight clumping clay.

Lit is a reasonable choice if you want a clumping clay litter that Whisker explicitly recommends for its current Litter-Robot models, and you value its disclosed single ingredient and naturally unscented description. The available information does not justify calling it the best-performing option: there is no independent performance comparison here, and Whisker’s claims about dust, tracking, and clumping have not been independently verified.
