A personal fundraiser may collect money for a stated beneficiary or expense, with transfer arrangements set by the platform. A charity tribute fund combines giving with a place to remember your pet. These routes are not interchangeable, so make the recipient and intended use clear before you invite donations.

- Support an animal charity: Look at a charity-hosted personal fundraiser, such as the options described by Best Friends Animal Society and RedRover. Check which program receives donations, where the page is available, and whether the charity or organizer receives the funds.
- Raise money for a named purpose: A general memorial crowdfunding page can explain the purpose, gather donations, and provide a way to transfer funds. GoFundMe’s memorial fundraiser guidance describes this approach. Check current fees, payout steps, identity requirements, geographic availability, and rules for your stated purpose.
- Create a lasting charity tribute: Battersea’s tribute funds can accept donations and sponsorship, and the organization also describes online pet memorial pages. JustGiving’s help article explains how to set up an in-memory page. Confirm whether the option is available where you live and whether the page accepts donations or is memorial-only.
- Collect donations in person: A remembrance gathering or funeral can include a collection. Battersea describes funeral collections and collection envelopes; coordinate with the receiving charity about how to deliver and record what is collected.
Set up an online fundraiser
Most online fundraisers need a page, a description, a shareable link, and a way for donations to reach the named recipient. The precise process varies by service. Before launching, read its current terms for fees, location eligibility, payout handling, and any identity or age requirements.

- Write the description. Put the intended use of donations near the beginning so supporters can quickly understand the purpose. Include your pet’s name, a short account of their life, what they meant to you or your family, and where donations will go.
- Add a personal touch. Include photos or video if the service allows them. A tribute page may also give family and friends a place to share stories and memories.
- Set a goal if the page asks for one. Choose an amount that matches the stated purpose. Do not present a goal as a promise that donations will reach it.
- Review and launch. Check the recipient, description, page settings, and any details about how collected funds are handled before publishing.
- Share the page. Send the link to friends and family by email or social media, along with a brief explanation of what the fundraiser supports. Share updates when they are useful to donors.

Check the organization’s page details to establish whether donations are routed to the charity, whether the page is available in your country, and whether it is a fundraising page or a memorial page without donation features.

On JustGiving, the help instructions updated April 4, 2025 describe starting a fundraiser, selecting a charity, indicating that the fundraising is in memory, choosing an activity or tribute route, entering page details, reviewing, and launching. The service’s labels and steps may change, so follow its current instructions.
In-person collections
If you are collecting at a funeral or remembrance event, tell guests which charity or purpose will receive the money. Arrange the delivery and record-keeping with the recipient in advance. A collection envelope or a simple way to share an online donation page can help guests take part.

Check age rules and other terms
Rules differ by service. Best Friends states that a person must be at least 13 to create a personal fundraising page; someone under 13 needs a parent or guardian to create it. Do not assume that age rule applies to other platforms.
Fees, eligibility, payout timing, payment handling, and tax treatment can vary by service and location. Verify those points on the selected provider’s current official information before inviting donations or making claims about tax deductibility. For example, GoFundMe’s U.S. memorial page says there is no fee to start; that statement does not mean donations have no payment-processing costs.
