What should a Siberian cat eat?
Feed your Siberian a nutritionally complete cat food suited to its life stage and individual health needs. The breed guidance from Cats.com says Siberians have no special nutritional requirements. A breed label alone is not a reason to choose one food over another.

Look for a nutritional adequacy statement on the package. The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) explains that “complete” means the food contains the required nutrients, while “balanced” means those nutrients are present in appropriate ratios. Look beyond the ingredient list
An ingredient list cannot, by itself, establish ingredient quality or the overall quality of a diet. The World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) advises readers to consider broader manufacturer and nutrition information rather than judging food by ingredient wording alone. “Premium” language is not a substitute for evidence that a food is complete and appropriate for your cat.
Consider calories, format, and your cat’s response
Compare calorie density and the amount your cat will actually eat. Wet, dry, or mixed feeding can each fit a diet plan; there is no universally best format for every Siberian. Your cat’s health, hydration needs, preferences, and ability to maintain a healthy body condition all matter.

How much should you feed a Siberian cat?
Start with the feeding directions on the food label, but treat them as an estimate rather than an individualized prescription. AAFCO notes that feeding directions may need adjustment to account for an animal’s activity and condition. The amount also depends on the food’s calorie density and your cat’s age, weight, body condition, health, and activity.
- Check the package directions. Find the daily amount for your cat’s current weight and the food’s life-stage guidance.
- Measure the daily portion. Use a measuring cup or kitchen scale, and account for treats as part of the overall diet.
- Monitor body condition and weight. If your cat’s weight changes or its condition is not where your veterinarian recommends, do not rely on a generic breed-based amount.
- Ask your veterinarian for an individual target. This is especially important for kittens, senior cats, cats with medical conditions, or any cat undergoing significant weight change.
Generic calorie-per-pound figures sometimes appear in feeding articles, but they are not a reliable fixed prescription for every Siberian. A veterinarian can help set a target for your cat and adapt it as its needs change.

Is wet or dry food better for Siberian cats?
Neither wet nor dry food is automatically best for every Siberian. Choose a complete and balanced food that suits your cat’s health needs and that it will eat consistently. Wet food contributes more moisture through the food itself; dry food may suit some cats and households. If hydration or a medical issue is a concern, ask your veterinarian which format or combination fits your cat’s plan.
Is raw food better for Siberian cats?
Raw food is not established as a health upgrade. The WSAVA Global Nutrition Committee states that there is no evidence raw meat-based diets provide health benefits over commercial diets or balanced homemade cooked diets. WSAVA also warns that raw meat can pose health risks to pets and their owners.

If you are considering a homemade diet, nutritional completeness and safe food handling are essential. Do not assume a recipe is balanced or formulate a long-term diet without help from a qualified veterinary nutrition professional.
When to ask a veterinarian about food
Seek veterinary advice if your Siberian has persistent itching, digestive symptoms, unexplained weight changes, or a suspected food intolerance. Those signs can have different causes, and an online feeding guide cannot diagnose them or determine the right diet trial for your cat. Your veterinarian can assess the symptoms and advise whether a diet change is appropriate.
