Neither club directory is an endorsement: treat listings as leads, not proof of a breeder’s practices.
Where to start looking for a Silken Windhound breeder
Use the breed organizations’ directories to build a shortlist and contact the clubs if you need help understanding the breed or finding current leads. The ISWS says its directory is limited to members expected to follow its ethics code, but also says, “Being listed here does not mean any of these breeders are endorsed or recommend by ISWS”. The SWHCOA says its list comprises club members after August 16, 2024.
Membership can provide a useful starting point, but it is not independent verification of an individual breeder’s practices. Directory information can change, and a listing does not establish that a breeder has a current litter available.
What to verify before choosing a breeder
Parentage, pedigree, and registration
Ask how the litter will be registered and request the puppy’s pedigree and registration information. The ISWS registry preserves breeding records and DNA profiles for parentage verification, genetic identity, and health-record purposes. ISWS says breeders must DNA-test each dog to verify parentage before breeding for offspring to qualify for registration.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Ask the breeder to explain the paperwork you will receive. ISWS notes that other registry arrangements, including dual registration, may exist, so registration documents may not be identical for every puppy.
Health screening for the parents
Ask which health tests are currently recommended for the specific parents, why those tests apply, and whether you can see copies of the results or public records. The SWHCOA buying guidance names MDR1 drug sensitivity, Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA), and possible eye, thyroid, or heart concerns; it notes that many breeders publish results through OFA. The SWHCOA health page also describes an ISWS Health and Rescue project screening for genetic mutations related to Copper Storage Disease/Copper Toxicosis.

These references are not proof that every condition is a confirmed breed-wide risk or that every named test is required for every dog. ISWS says health-testing recommendations can change as breed health issues and available tests change. Request the actual parents’ results, and ask the breeder or relevant club what recommendations are current.
Puppy care, placement, and lifetime support
Ask to review the contract and placement terms before paying. The SWHCOA Breeder Code of Ethics says puppies should not be placed before eight weeks, recommends a veterinary examination and deworming before sale, and calls for immunization records and written care, grooming, and feeding instructions. It also addresses registration or an agreed written exception and discourages misleading advertising.
Rank #3
Ask what happens if you can no longer keep the dog. The SWHCOA code says members should be willing to take back a dog or help find an appropriate home. This is a club-code provision, not a guarantee that every listed breeder follows it or a statement of law; get the breeder’s own return or rehoming commitment in writing.

Compare what each breeder can document and explain, rather than relying on directory presence or reputation by hearsay. No ranking of individual breeders is established by the club materials.
