Turbo’s recovery came before the tavern
Turbo, a black-and-white dog, arrived at Best Friends Animal Society’s Lifesaving Center in New York with serious injuries, including a deep laceration on his shoulder. The injury required surgery. Mandy and Zach Tewell were visiting New York from North Carolina when they met Turbo at the tavern. They returned to New York to adopt him and take him home.

Best Friends reported that Turbo was living in North Carolina after the adoption. At the time of the story, he was four years old and enjoying cozy naps, car rides, and outdoor adventures. Those are details reported in the July 2025 account, not a current independent update.

Turbo’s story shows a practical role foster care can play: a volunteer cared for him during recovery, then helped introduce him to potential adopters in a setting where he could meet them.
