Clyde, the dog in this lighthearted video, seems to know exactly what he wants: a kitten. When his dad returns from a pet-store trip and teases him by mentioning other animals, a kitten’s meow gives away the surprise—and Clyde rushes toward the reveal. The “talking” is playful framing, not evidence that dogs speak literally.
What happens in the video?
Clyde appears to be waiting for news after his father comes back from the pet store. Instead of showing the surprise right away, his dad talks about other animals, stretching out the suspense. Then a kitten meows, and Clyde hurries toward it. The scene’s charm is in his eager reaction and the timing of the reveal.
Who is the dog, and where did the clip come from?
The dog is identified as Clyde in both the 2025 iHeartDogs retelling and an earlier 2013 Laughing Squid post. The 2025 article credits the video to Talking Animals via YouTube. Laughing Squid’s earlier post credits Pets Add Life and Andrew Grantham of Talking Animals, providing historical attribution for the clip.
The October 2026 iHeartDogs article with the same headline is a later retelling of the setup and reveal, not independent confirmation of how or when the original video was made.

Does Clyde actually talk?
No literal speech is established. “Talking” describes the humorous presentation of Clyde’s expressive behavior; it should not be taken as a scientific claim about canine language. The story is a short entertainment clip about a dog’s apparent excitement over a kitten.
Is the video a reason to get a kitten?
No. The clip offers a fun moment, not guidance about bringing a cat into a home with a dog. Whether to adopt another pet depends on the animals and household, and this video does not establish anything about Clyde’s or the kitten’s longer-term circumstances.
