Other egg toys use catnip, spinning parts, lights, sounds or partially autonomous movement, so choosing the right one depends on whether you want slower meals, treat play or hunting-style exercise.
What an “interactive egg cat toy” actually is
Egg-shaped cat toys share a look, but they do not all provide the same kind of interaction. Some are rolling objects that a cat bats around. Some contain catnip. That distinction matters. If you expect an egg to roam around the room, change direction by itself or behave like a miniature animal, the Egg-Cersizer will not meet that expectation. Food is the reward
Fill the Egg-Cersizer with dry food or treats, then let the cat create the movement that releases them. Use it as a meal station, not only a treat toy
The manual recommends combining regular kibble with something especially tasty and placing the toy where the feeding bowl used to be. You can use a portion of the cat’s normal meal instead of adding extra calories. PetSafe’s product copy says the Egg-Cersizer can hold an entire meal and presents it as a way to make playtime more fun and help a cat lose weight. Those statements are manufacturer claims; the official materials do not provide an independent controlled study proving weight loss.
Setting up an Egg-Cersizer step by step
- Measure the food. Use the amount that belongs in the cat’s meal or planned treat allowance. A puzzle feeder should not quietly increase daily calories.
- Load the egg. Add dry kibble, treats or a mixture of kibble and a more appealing food as suggested in the manual.
- Choose an opening setting. Begin with one, two or three openings according to how easily your cat solves food puzzles. More open paths are the gentler introduction.
- Place it at the usual feeding location. Moving the object to the former bowl area helps the cat understand that this is where food is available.
- Demonstrate without forcing. Roll or tap the egg once so a piece falls out, then let the cat investigate. Avoid pushing the cat’s face toward the toy.
- Watch the first sessions. Confirm that the cat can obtain food and is not chewing the shell, becoming frustrated or guarding the toy from another pet.
- Adjust gradually. When the cat solves the current setting quickly and calmly, reduce the number of openings or use less immediately accessible food. If the cat walks away repeatedly, make the task easier.

PetSafe states that the Egg-Cersizer is top-rack dishwasher safe. Remove remaining food and follow the manufacturer’s cleaning directions rather than leaving damp residue inside. Dishwasher safety does not eliminate the need to inspect the shell and dispensing openings.

Pick a multisensory device for sound and light

Pick a catnip roller for simple batting

Safety and supervision checklist
- Inspect before every use. Discard any toy that is cracked, split, missing pieces or exposing sharp edges.

My cat ignores the egg

Food is getting stuck
Empty and clean the toy, then test a different kibble size. Do not enlarge openings or modify the shell; alterations can create sharp edges or unsafe fragments.
My cat becomes frustrated or aggressive
