That review describes an animal-protein-based food with estimated dry-matter values of 41.1% protein, 24.4% fat and 26.4% carbohydrates. The main reasons to hesitate are also clear: high fat, low moisture and a limited product range.
Those figures are the reviewer’s estimates, not laboratory results commissioned for this article. This review explains what is established about Chase, what remains uncertain, and which cats may—or may not—be a good match.

The short verdict on Dr. Tim’s Chase cat food
Chase is a credible dry-food option on the evidence available, particularly for an owner seeking a high-protein, all-life-stages recipe with added fish oil and taurine. Cat Food Advisor’s four-star, “Recommended” rating supports that conclusion, but it is not a universal suitability guarantee.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The recipe’s estimated protein level is a strength. Its estimated fat level is high, and dry food supplies little water compared with canned food. Those characteristics matter for cats that need calorie control, have difficulty drinking, or are being managed for a condition in which a veterinarian has prescribed a specific diet. The range is also narrow: the current official catalog lists Chase, while a third-party overview mentions a wet Nimble Chicken Vegetable Pate that does not appear in the captured official listing.

In practical terms, Chase deserves consideration as a dry staple for a healthy cat that does well on it, provided the current package confirms the intended life-stage statement and your cat’s calorie and hydration needs fit the formula. It should not be treated as a substitute for veterinary nutrition advice.
What product is actually being reviewed?
The product identified in the current official catalog is Chase All Life Stages Cat Food. The independent review examines the Chase dry recipe, not a confirmed canned version. “All life stages” is the product’s stated profile; it does not mean every cat, regardless of health status, should eat it.
Product names and formulas can change. The ingredient list below is a transcription captured in the 2025 review, so compare it with the bag you receive before relying on it for an allergy decision, elimination diet or other medical purpose.

Nutrition: the numbers and how to read them
Cat Food Advisor reports the following estimated dry-matter analysis for Chase. Dry-matter values remove the water from the calculation, which makes foods with different moisture levels easier to compare. They are not the same as the guaranteed-analysis percentages printed on a package and are not a new laboratory test.
| Nutrient | Estimated dry-matter value | Reviewer’s characterization | What it means for a buyer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Protein | 41.1% | Above average | A relatively protein-rich profile, with animal ingredients prominent in the listed formula |
| Fat | 24.4% | High | Potentially calorie-dense; portion control matters for cats prone to weight gain |
| Carbohydrates | 26.4% | Reported estimate | Useful for comparing formulas, but not a substitute for the package’s current analysis |
| Moisture | Not stated as a percentage in the supplied review summary | Low | A dry diet contributes less water than a wet diet, so drinking and overall diet design matter |
Do not read 41.1% as the amount of protein in every scoop. It is an estimate after moisture is mathematically removed. The same qualification applies to the fat and carbohydrate figures. Use the current label for feeding directions, calories and guaranteed analysis, and use the independent estimates as context rather than as a promise of exact composition.
The 24.4% estimated fat figure is the most consequential trade-off in everyday feeding. Fat is energy-dense, so a cat that eats more calories than it uses can gain weight even when the food’s protein profile looks attractive. Weighing portions, monitoring body condition and adjusting treats are more reliable than filling a bowl by eye.

Ingredient list: what appears in Chase
The reviewed ingredient list begins with chicken meal, brown rice, chicken fat, egg product and catfish meal. It also includes dried porcine plasma, menhaden fish oil, taurine, and added vitamins and minerals.

Chicken meal
Chicken meal is the first listed ingredient in the reviewed transcription. Meal is a rendered, concentrated ingredient, so its position should not be interpreted the same way as the position of fresh chicken, which contains substantial water before cooking. It is nevertheless an animal-derived protein ingredient and is central to the recipe’s protein profile.
Brown rice
Brown rice supplies starch and contributes to the carbohydrate portion of a dry kibble. Its presence is not, by itself, evidence that the food is unsuitable; the relevant question is how your cat responds to the complete formula and whether its energy and nutrient targets fit the cat.
Chicken fat
Chicken fat is a concentrated energy source and helps explain why the reviewer characterized the recipe’s fat level as high. Cats that need a calorie-controlled diet may require smaller measured portions or a different formula selected with veterinary guidance.
Egg product and catfish meal
These ingredients add animal-derived nutrients and broaden the protein sources beyond chicken. That variety may be useful nutritionally, but it also means the recipe is not a simple single-protein food for a formal elimination trial.

Dried porcine plasma
Dried porcine plasma appears later in the captured list. Owners managing a known pork sensitivity should not assume the ingredient is irrelevant; check the current package and discuss alternatives with a veterinarian.

Menhaden fish oil and taurine
Menhaden fish oil is an omega-3 source, a feature the independent review highlights. Taurine is also listed. Both are appropriate details to note when comparing labels, but their presence does not establish that the food treats a disease or replaces a prescribed supplement.
Added vitamins and minerals
The list includes supplemental vitamins and minerals, as is typical for a complete commercial diet. The manufacturer says its foods meet and exceed AAFCO minimum standards for canine and feline nutrition; that is a company statement, not an independent feeding-trial result reported here.
Potential advantages of Chase
- High estimated protein: Cat Food Advisor’s 41.1% dry-matter estimate is above average in that review.
- Animal ingredients lead the list: Chicken meal appears first, followed by chicken fat, egg product and catfish meal in the captured transcription.
- Omega-3 ingredient: Menhaden fish oil is listed and the reviewer specifically notes omega-3 content.
- All-life-stages labeling: The recipe is presented for all life stages, which may simplify feeding in a multi-age household when a veterinarian agrees it is appropriate.
- Independent positive assessment: The dry recipe received four stars and a “Recommended” verdict from Cat Food Advisor in its September 24, 2025 update.
These are formulation and review attributes, not guarantees that an individual cat will like the food, digest it well or maintain an ideal weight on it.

High fat can raise calorie-management demands
The estimated 24.4% fat level is described as high by the reviewer. A food with more fat can work for an active, lean cat when portions are appropriate, but it leaves less room for casual overfeeding. Use the package’s calorie statement and a measured scoop or kitchen scale rather than free-pouring.
Dry food provides limited moisture
The review flags low moisture. Cats often obtain part of their water from food, so a dry-only diet places more importance on drinking. Provide clean water in accessible locations and watch for changes in drinking or urination. A cat with urinary, kidney or other medical concerns may need a veterinarian-selected moisture strategy rather than a simple brand switch.
The range appears limited
The independent review identifies one Chase dry recipe. A separate Pet Food Reviewer overview lists Chase and a wet Nimble Chicken Vegetable Pate, but the current official catalog text captured for this review lists Chase and does not list Nimble. Availability of that wet product is therefore unresolved; verify the manufacturer’s current listing before treating it as a companion option.

Ingredient and formula details can change
The ingredient transcription comes from the 2025 review. Manufacturers may alter suppliers or formulations, so read the current bag for allergens, calorie density, feeding directions and the guaranteed analysis.
No independent safety audit was identified
The available evidence includes the company’s own manufacturing and recall statements and an independent product review. It does not establish a regulator-confirmed, comprehensive recall history or an outside audit of production controls.
Life-stage fit: who should consider it?
“All life stages” is useful labeling, but it is broad. A healthy kitten, adult and senior can have very different calorie needs, activity levels and medical histories. The label indicates the intended nutritional life-stage category; it does not determine the correct portion or prove suitability for a particular diagnosis.
May be reasonable for
- Healthy cats whose owners want a dry, animal-protein-based formula.
- Homes that prefer one all-life-stages food for cats of different ages, provided each cat maintains an appropriate body condition.
- Cats that tolerate the listed chicken, fish, egg and porcine ingredients and do not need a therapeutic diet.
Use extra caution for
- Cats that are overweight or gain weight easily, because the review characterizes fat as high.
- Cats that drink poorly or have a veterinarian-directed need for increased dietary moisture.
- Cats with suspected food allergies, because the recipe contains several animal protein sources rather than one clearly isolated protein.
- Kittens, seniors or cats with chronic disease whose calorie, phosphorus, mineral or moisture requirements need individual management.
For any of these situations, take the current label to your veterinarian. The independent review does not evaluate therapeutic suitability or conduct a feeding trial.

Dr. Tim’s says its foods are made in Kansas at Alphia Foods. The company also states, “Dr. Tim’s has never had a recall.” That is the company’s claim and should not be read as a guarantee that no future recall can occur or as an independently audited historical record.
The company further says, “We do quality control at multiple stages of production and various tests including salmonella, amino acid profile, and taurine testing.” These statements describe the manufacturer’s stated process. The reviewed material does not independently verify the frequency, scope or results of those tests.

Dr. Tim’s says its pet foods meet and exceed AAFCO minimum standards for canine and feline nutrition. Again, this is a manufacturer statement. It does not mean the recipe has been shown here to prevent illness, nor does it replace checking the nutritional adequacy statement on the current package.
How to switch a cat to Chase
The manufacturer recommends changing from another brand gradually over 5–10 days. A slower change can be sensible for a cat with a sensitive stomach, while a healthy cat may complete the transition closer to the shorter end if stools and appetite remain normal.
- Confirm the label first. Check that the bag is Chase All Life Stages Cat Food, inspect the ingredient and calorie information, and verify that the package is intact.
- Start with mostly the old food. Offer a small amount of Chase alongside the familiar diet rather than replacing the entire meal at once.
- Increase Chase gradually. Over the next several days, raise the Chase proportion while reducing the old food. Keep total daily calories consistent with the feeding plan.
- Monitor the cat. Track appetite, vomiting, stool quality, energy and body weight. Do not interpret one skipped bite as proof of intolerance, but do not ignore repeated gastrointestinal signs.
- Pause or reverse the change if needed. If persistent vomiting, diarrhea, refusal to eat or other concerning signs occur, return to the last tolerated mix and contact a veterinarian.
- Measure the finished portion. Once fully transitioned, use the package directions as a starting point and adjust with body-condition monitoring rather than unlimited access.
The 5–10-day schedule is manufacturer guidance, not a clinical trial result. Cats with medical diets should be transitioned under veterinary direction.

Dry versus wet: the key comparison questions
The available evidence does not support a head-to-head winner against another brand or a confirmed current wet counterpart. You can still make a useful comparison by checking the following characteristics on the labels you are considering.
| Comparison point | What is established for reviewed Chase | What to verify in another food |
|---|---|---|
| Format | Dry recipe reviewed by Cat Food Advisor | Whether the alternative is dry, wet or a mixed-feeding option |
| Protein | 41.1% estimated dry matter, Cat Food Advisor 2025 | Whether the competitor’s figure uses the same dry-matter basis |
| Fat | 24.4% estimated dry matter; characterized as high | Calorie density and fat level under comparable conditions |
| Carbohydrates | 26.4% estimated dry matter | Calculation method and moisture basis |
| Moisture | Flagged as low; exact percentage not stated in the review summary | Guaranteed moisture and how much water the cat obtains from the diet |
| Life-stage statement | All life stages | Whether the alternative is complete and balanced for the cat’s life stage |
| Safety evidence | Company statements about Kansas production, testing and recall history | What the manufacturer documents and whether claims are independently verified |
Wet food generally contributes more water by weight than kibble, but the relevant choice depends on the entire diet, calories, medical needs and the cat’s acceptance. Do not infer a food’s quality from moisture alone; compare the complete nutrient statement and feeding plan.
Checking the current bag before purchase
- Confirm the exact name: Chase All Life Stages Cat Food.
- Read the current ingredient list for chicken, fish, egg, porcine or other ingredients relevant to your cat.
- Record calories per cup or other stated unit before changing portions.
- Check the guaranteed analysis and nutritional adequacy statement on the package.
- Look for an intact seal, normal appearance and an in-date lot.
- Use the manufacturer’s current catalog to verify whether any wet option is actually listed; do not assume the third-party mention of Nimble reflects current availability.
Prices, package sizes and retailer stock are not established by the evidence reviewed here and can vary by location and date. Treat any online listing as a separate availability check, not as proof of a permanent product line.
What the four-star recommendation does—and does not—tell you
Cat Food Advisor’s four-star score and “Recommended” label are an independent reviewer’s assessment of the analyzed Chase dry recipe. They summarize that reviewer’s evaluation of the formula, not your cat’s guaranteed response. The rating also does not erase the same review’s cautions about high fat, low moisture and limited range.
A sensible decision therefore combines the rating with your cat’s body condition, drinking habits, ingredient tolerances, life stage and veterinary requirements. If those factors fit, Chase can be a reasonable dry-food candidate. If they do not, a higher rating cannot make the mismatch appropriate.
