Kumail Nanjiani and content creator Jordan Howlett star in Tidy Cats’ three-part social campaign, the Special Litter Unit, which turns common litter-box complaints—odor, weak clumps and tracking—into mock “crimes.” Each episode connects one complaint to a formula in the brand’s Performance+ line.
What is the Special Litter Unit?
Announced by Purina Tidy Cats on October 1, 2026, the campaign is a crime-procedural-style social series. Nanjiani plays its lead agent, while Howlett appears as a rookie officer. Tidy Cats said the first episode would premiere on its Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, with more episodes rolling out over the following week. The campaign page had episode two available when reviewed and listed October 5 as the release date for episode three; that date has passed.
Nanjiani’s involvement is part of the campaign’s humor: “I’ve been a cat person my whole life, so I know exactly what a litter box crime looks like,” he said in the launch announcement. That is a campaign quote, not an independent assessment of the products.
Which litter-box complaints does it spotlight?
The campaign assigns a Performance+ formula to each of its three mock cases. These are Tidy Cats’ product descriptions, not independent comparative test results.

- [Features]: WePet made this scooper durable with heavy duty quality. After investigation with thousands thoughtful users, we finally make an improvement of removing the serrated edge as mentioned on reviews. The body is waterproof and very easy to clean, rust-resistant and corrosion resistant. It’s highly recommended by cat lovers for everyday use.
- [Premium Material]: Full aluminum alloy cast built body, comfort grip handle, all together make this scooper long last for years.
| Mock “crime” | Performance+ formula | How Tidy Cats describes it |
|---|---|---|
| Odor | Active Clean | Purina says it neutralizes bacterial odors at the source rather than masking them. |
| Weak or crumbly clumps | Power Clump | Positioned for tight clumping and minimal sticking. |
| Tracking | Tidy Feet | Purina says its flat granule shape helps reduce tracking. |
The launch announcement says Tidy Feet has “64% less tracking than the leading clumping litter.” That is a manufacturer claim; the reviewed campaign materials do not provide a test method or independent substantiation, so it should not be read as a verified comparison across litters.

How does Petfinder fit in?

Petfinder’s cat adoption resources offer a route to browse adoptable cats and learn about adoption. The campaign materials establish the collaboration, but do not establish an affiliate or referral arrangement.
