The available product evidence does not support naming 10 distinct lightweight cat litters or ranking them through independent testing. Purina’s U.S. catalog lists six Tidy Cats Lightweight variants. Here’s what is established about those options—and what shoppers should check before choosing one.
What lightweight cat litters are verified in the U.S.?
Purina’s U.S. product catalog lists six Tidy Cats Lightweight variants: Lightweight With Glade Clean Blossoms, Lightweight 24/7 Performance, Lightweight 4-in-1 Strength, Lightweight Instant Action, Lightweight With Glade Clear Springs, and Lightweight Free & Clean Unscented. This is a count of variants listed in that catalog, not a count of every lightweight litter sold in the market.

The evidence available for this article does not establish 10 qualifying products or provide independent comparative tests. Dr. Elsey’s official catalog and product pages describe clumping, odor-control, or tracking features, but do not identify the products examined as lightweight. They are therefore not included as lightweight picks.
What is known about each Tidy Cats Lightweight option?
Free & Clean Unscented
Purina describes this formula as fragrance- and dye-free, with activated charcoal for odor control. That makes it the clearest documented option for shoppers seeking an unscented formula; the source does not provide independent comparative results for odor control, dust, tracking, or clumping. Purina’s July 31, 2026 article names it as part of the Lightweight line.
#1 Best Overall
- LIGHTWEIGHT POWER: This Fresh Step light weight cat litter delivers powerful odor control in a lightweight formula, so it’s easier to lift, carry, store and pour without sacrificing performance
- FEBREZE FRESHNESS: This scented cat litter keeps your home smelling nice and clean, so it's great for busy families who want to keep their homes guest-ready
- RELIABLE CLUMPING: Fast, tight kitty litter clumping makes scooping simple in any litter box
- PAW-ACTIVATED FRESHNESS: Every step your cat takes activates a burst of odor-fighting power, combining paw-activated Febreze freshness with activated carbon to neutralize smells at the source
- MULTI-CAT STRENGTH: Designed for multi-cat households, this lightweight cat litter is compatible with many automated litter boxes (2)
24/7 Performance
Purina’s product page describes a Clean Linen scent and a slow-release deodorizing system. The company claims the litter is 50% lighter than leading clumping litter, 99.9% dust-free, and prevents ammonia odor for 21 days when used as directed. These are manufacturer claims, not independent test findings. See Purina’s product description.
4-in-1 Strength
Purina’s July 31, 2026 article describes this variant as targeting odor control, clumping, tracking, and dust. The available evidence does not establish a detailed product-to-product performance comparison or independent test results.
Rank #2
- INCLUDES: (1) 12lb Jug of Antibacterial Scented Litter that destroys 99.9% of odor-causing bacteria and prevents bacterial odor
- 40% LIGHTER: Compared to other traditional scoopable litters, making it easier to carry, pour, and store
- ANTIBACTERIAL: Our formulation kills 99.9% of odor-causing bacteria and prevents bacterial odor for a clean litter box and sanitary home
- INSTANT ODOR-LOCKING CLUMPING POWDER: Our clay litter forms strong, easy to scoop clumps. As clay is a natural mineral you may experience color variability, but with the same superior performance
- LITTER FOR GOOD: For every Cat's Pride jug purchased, one pound of cat litter is donated to animal welfare organizations to help animals in need
Instant Action and the two Glade-scented variants
Lightweight Instant Action, Lightweight With Glade Clean Blossoms, and Lightweight With Glade Clear Springs appear in the U.S. catalog. The evidence establishes their listing and names, but not a detailed independent comparison of their odor control, clumping, dust, or tracking.

- Start with scent preference. Free & Clean is described by Purina as fragrance-free; 24/7 Performance is Clean Linen scented. The catalog also lists two Glade-scented variants.
- Treat performance figures as claims, not test results. The 24/7 Performance page gives specific weight, dust, and odor-control figures, but they are Purina’s claims. The materials available do not establish independent comparative testing across the six variants.
- Check package size and total value. Compare current package size and price at the retailer, and consider usable volume or how long a package lasts—not price per pound alone. Current retail prices and package formats are not established here.
- Confirm box compatibility. If you use an automated or weight-sensitive litter box, check the box maker’s current guidance. Compatibility for these formulas is not established by the product sources cited here.
Why this is not a ranked top 10
A credible top-10 list needs 10 products that meet the same lightweight criterion, plus a defensible basis for comparing them. The available official product evidence confirms six variants from one product family, but does not establish 10 qualifying products or independent comparative results. Ranking the six as “best” would imply testing or evidence that is not available; adding standard-weight litters would change the category rather than complete it.
Rank #3
- LONG-LASTING ODOR CONTROL: Helps prevent ammonia odor for 21 days when used as directed for a fresher litter box and supports cat litter odor control for cat essentials and other pet supplies
- EASIER LIFTING AND POURING: Lightweight cat litter formula is 50 percent lighter than the leading clumping litter for easier carrying and pouring --less weight, not less litter
- STRONG CLUMPING PERFORMANCE: Powerful and absorbent lightweight litter forms light, tight, strong clumps for quick and easy scooping
- LOW DUST LESS MESS: Low dust cat litter provides a low-tracking litter box and less mess in your home
- MULTI-CAT LITTERBOX USE: Powerful cat litter designed to accommodate any multiple cat litterbox and multi-cat family for easy litter box management
Purina’s July 31, 2026 company article quotes Tidy Cats Lightweight inventor and Director of Innovation Nathan Huck describing the design goal as matching traditional clumping clay performance while cutting weight. That statement describes the company’s aim; it is not independent validation of performance.
