Its footprint is 22 × 27 inches, so measure the intended spot—and the route into it—before buying. Whisker describes features including automatic sifting, waste-type detection, and safety sensors, but the available evidence does not establish independent test results for cleaning performance, reliability, or acclimation. This review therefore assesses the product’s published specifications and what they mean for a buying decision; it does not claim firsthand testing.
What the Litter-Robot 5 does
Whisker describes the Litter-Robot 5 as a self-cleaning litter box: after a cat uses it, the globe cycles to sift waste into a drawer. Its WasteID feature is intended to distinguish urine from feces for targeted odor control. The Whisker app offers visit and weight monitoring, along with updates. These are manufacturer-described functions, not independently verified results. Whisker’s Litter-Robot 5 specifications explain the features.
Whisker also describes a multi-layer safety system using lasers, weight sensors, and anti-obstruction technology, and says the globe cycles when clear. That description is not an independent safety certification or proof that every hazard is prevented. As with any powered pet product, follow the manual’s setup and supervision guidance.
Will it fit your home and your cat?
The dimensions are important because this is a sizable enclosed unit, not a small open tray. Whisker lists a 29.9-inch height, a 22 × 27-inch footprint, a 15.75 × 15.75-inch entryway, and 17.5 inches of interior headroom. The empty unit weighs 28.7 lb.

- Measure doorways, hallways, and stairs on the delivery route; the empty machine weighs 28.7 lb.
- Check the entry opening and interior headroom against your cat’s size and comfort with enclosed spaces.
- Whisker specifies a cat weight range of 3–30 lb and a household limit of up to five cats. Treat these as intended-use specifications, not a guarantee that every cat will accept the box or that it will suit every multi-cat household.

Litter-Robot 5 vs. Litter-Robot 5 Pro
In Whisker’s lineup information, the Litter-Robot 5 was listed from $799 and the 5 Pro from $899. The Pro adds two built-in cameras and AI-powered cat identification. Whisker says visual cat recognition requires a Whisker+ membership; check the current feature and membership terms before purchase. Whisker’s lineup page describes the models.

Prices and feature terms can change. If your priority is automatic cleaning and app monitoring, decide whether the Pro’s camera features justify its higher listed starting price for your household. If you want visual cat recognition, factor in the membership requirement rather than treating it as an included standalone feature.
Price, trial, warranty, and availability
At the time the official sales page was indexed, it displayed a starting price of $799, a 90-day in-home trial, and one year of included WhiskerCare protection. It also stated that the product was available for purchase and shipment within the United States and Canada, and that the app was not compatible outside those countries. These purchase terms are time- and region-sensitive: confirm the current price, trial conditions, protection details, shipping eligibility, and app availability on the official sales page before ordering.

Optional LitterHopper and litter compatibility
Whisker separately lists a Litter-Robot 5 LitterHopper, an accessory described as automatically dispensing litter with capacity for up to 17.3 cups. Whisker describes compatibility with multiple litter types. Availability, price, and exact compatibility should be checked on the Litter-Robot 5 product page before treating the accessory as part of a purchase plan; it is not listed among the robot’s included items.
What this review can—and cannot—establish
The available product information supports a specification-based assessment, not a claim that the Litter-Robot 5 was personally tested. No independent performance or reliability statistic for this model is established here. Whisker’s statement that more than 95% of cats acclimated easily concerns stated reasons for customer returns of earlier Litter-Robot 4 and 3 models over a one-year period; it is not an LR5 acclimation rate or a controlled study. Whisker’s October 21, 2025 launch announcement provides product context, but does not replace independent testing.

For a buyer, the practical questions are whether the box fits the room and cat, whether app-connected monitoring is useful, and whether the current price and purchase terms make sense. The product’s advertised functions should be weighed as manufacturer claims until supported by independent results.
