What happened at Mandurah Town Beach?

Western Australia’s SharkSmart service issued a shark warning for Town Beach on 7 February 2024 after a member of the public reported the interaction. The alert described a reported two-metre bronze whaler bumping a jet ski about 100 metres offshore. The species and size were reported identifications, not independently verified findings. SharkSmart’s alert recorded the event time and report time separately.

Jet ski rider Brian Osmon later recalled in a local radio interview that a dorsal fin appeared beside him and nudged the craft, rocking it. Osmon said he first thought the animal was a dolphin and later suspected it was a bronze whaler. Those details are his account of the encounter. Osmon’s interview
