Five adopted pets are settling into new lives in very different ways: Jedi joins his family for mountain adventures, Winston works as a therapy dog, and three cats are finding their place alongside people and other pets. Their adopters shared the updates in a Best Friends Animal Society feature published March 4, 2026.
Jedi takes on mountain adventures
The Casey family says they adopted Jedi from Best Friends about a year before the feature. In their Eastern Sierra home, they regularly run, hike, climb, and play in the water with him. The family’s account presents an active life built around the places they enjoy together.
Winston becomes a therapy dog
Matthew and Dakota say Winston came to Best Friends with a broken jaw and received surgery and recovery care. They report that he is now a therapy dog who enjoys hiking, camping, cuddling, and watching for visitors. His tongue often sticks out, they explain, because he lost teeth during surgery.
Zagreus and Thanatos adjust to life together
Kailynn says she renamed Crispin Zagreus and Fizz Thanatos after adopting the cats separately. She describes Zagreus as outgoing and eager for attention, while Thanatos is shy and puts up with his brother’s antics. After an adjustment period, she says, the two became happy together.

Mina follows the resident cat
Fran says Ashley became Mina after adoption. At Mina’s first veterinary visit, she received a vaccine that was due. Fran also reports that Mina gets along with the resident cat, following and imitating her.
What these updates show—and what they do not
The stories describe several kinds of settling in: shared outdoor activities, therapy work and recreation, a pair of cats adjusting to one another, and a new cat bonding with a resident pet. They are adopters’ accounts collected by Best Friends Animal Society, not independent veterinary or behavioral assessments, so they offer personal snapshots rather than proof of a typical adoption outcome.
