A 2023 report put his length at 1.3 metres (4.3 feet)—and compared that figure with the average height of a nine-year-old child. That is a length-to-height comparison, not a claim that Finn stands taller than a child.
How big is Finn the Maine Coon?
The 2023 SWNS-syndicated story carried by The Epoch Times reported Finn at 1.3 metres (4.3 feet) long. The story did not explain how he was measured, and the figure has not been independently verified in the sources available here. A profile published by Indian Defence Review in 2025 repeated the same length and credited SWNS in its image captions; it does not establish that Finn was measured again.
The striking “bigger than a 9-year-old kid” comparison originated in the 2023 report. It compares Finn’s reported length with an average child’s height. It does not mean he is that tall on his feet, nor does it give his weight or standing height.
Who is Finn, and where does he live?
Finn is associated with owner Natalie Bowman in San Carlos, California. The 2023 report says Bowman adopted him in 2017, when he was about three and a half months old. Indian Defence Review called him six years old in its July 2025 profile; that is the age given at the time of that publication, not a verified current age.

Bowman described Finn as docile, curious, needy, and affectionate, saying he enjoys cuddles and being spooned. She also recounted how people often mistake him for a dog from a distance before realizing he is a cat. These are his owner’s reported impressions, not an independent temperament assessment.
How big do Maine Coons usually get?
The Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) describes Maine Coons as large, rugged cats that mature slowly. Its breed reference says a mature male may reach or exceed 20 pounds; females are usually smaller, and the breed can take up to three years to reach full growth. These general breed details give context, but they do not confirm Finn’s reported length or show that it is typical of Maine Coons.

Length, weight, and standing height describe different things. A useful comparison between cats would need consistent measuring methods as well as information such as age and sex. The reports cited here do not provide a comparable set of measurements for other cats.

The 2023 story reported that Bowman spent about $150 per month on Finn’s food and fed him three or four times daily at that time. These are historical owner-reported details, not current expenses or feeding recommendations.
