Mobile SPCA’s October 5, 2026, Pet of the Week feature describes Sam as a friendly, six-year-old wire-haired terrier who is available for adoption. The feature does not establish whether he is still available as of October 7, so contact Mobile SPCA to confirm his status and arrange any visit.
What the feature says about Sam
In its October 5, 2026, feature, AOL, with a WKRG dateline, identifies Sam as a six-year-old wire-haired terrier and describes him as happy and fond of people.
- The feature says Sam is crate-trained and gets along with other dogs.
- It describes him as most likely house-trained; that wording is not a guarantee.
- The story says a family member died and the remaining family could no longer afford a dog.
These are descriptions reported in the feature, not independent assessments. It does not establish Sam’s size, health status, or compatibility with children.
Is Sam still available?
The feature presents Sam as adoptable, but that does not confirm his current status. Mobile SPCA’s pets available for adoption page does not resolve whether Sam remains available. Contact the shelter before making plans, and ask about his current availability, size, adoption fee, and meeting arrangements.

How Mobile SPCA’s adoption process works
Mobile SPCA asks prospective adopters to submit an application before meeting pets. The shelter says the application helps it understand the household and match an animal to a suitable home. Its general adoption requirements and policies say adopters must be at least 21 and meet the shelter’s care and housing requirements. A veterinary reference or check, or a home visit, may also be required. These are general policies; confirm the steps that apply to Sam with the shelter.
What Sam’s adoption fee includes
The October 5 feature says Sam’s adoption fee includes neutering, vaccinations, and microchipping, but does not state the fee amount. Mobile SPCA’s general adoption package lists additional items, including a collar, tags, a slip leash, and a free bag of Science Diet food. The feature does not confirm that every general package item is included for Sam, so check with the shelter. Mobile SPCA also notes that some health or behavior conditions may be unknown at adoption.
