That date has passed. The announcement said participating stores would host adoptable dogs, cats, and small animals from local shelters and rescues, but it did not identify individual animals or confirm which stores took part.
What animals were featured at the Petsense Adoptathon?
Petsense announced that local shelters and rescue groups would bring adoptable dogs, cats, and small animals to participating stores. The company’s September 30, 2026 announcement did not name specific animals, describe unusual breeds or species, or publish a store-by-store animal roster. “Unique animals” therefore should not be read as a confirmed lineup of particular pets.
Availability depended on the local partner and could vary by store. The event announcement does not establish which animals were present at any individual location.
When was the event, and what was offered?
The Fall Adoptathon was announced for Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. local time at participating Petsense by Tractor Supply stores nationwide. The release did not list participating locations. Petsense set a goal of 1,200 adoptions; that was a target, not a reported event result. The announcement does not provide a confirmed total for adoptions on October 3.

How Petsense adoption works
Petsense says its stores host cat adoption centers and partner with local shelters and rescues for adoption events. The company says it does not sell dogs or cats in its stores. Petsense provides a venue and works with adoption partners; the shelter or rescue handles the adoption and sets its own requirements and fees.
Its adoption page describes national adoption events as semiannual and says local stores also host monthly events. Schedules, participating partners, and available animals are local, so contact the store or rescue before making a trip.

What to bring and confirm before adopting
For the October 2026 event, Petsense asked attendees to bring valid photo ID. Because each partner sets its own adoption terms, the announcement did not establish one set of eligibility rules or fees for all stores. Before visiting, ask the specific shelter or rescue:
- Whether it is participating at the store and which animals are expected.
- What identification, application materials, or other requirements it uses.
- Its adoption fee and whether additional steps are required before approval.
- How the animal should be transported home. If you are adopting a cat, confirm whether you need to bring a carrier; Petsense’s announcement does not say one is provided.
What the adoption figures do—and don’t—show
Petsense said it had supported more than 223,000 pet adoptions since 2005 through its in-store Sav-A-Pet centers and nationwide events. For context, its October 17, 2025 spring Adoptathon announcement reported 1,118 pets adopted at that event. Neither figure establishes the outcome of the October 2026 event.
