Buying a Pomsky safely takes more than finding a puppy with blue eyes and a Husky-like mask. “Pomsky” describes a developing cross involving Pomeranian and Siberian Husky ancestry, and the dogs can differ substantially in adult size, coat, energy, temperament, and health risk. Some newer lines also include American Eskimo ancestry.
Before sending a deposit, verify the parents, health records, living conditions, contract, and seller’s identity. A private Pomsky registry or an attractive online listing is not a substitute for those checks.

What is a Pomsky?
A Pomsky is a designer cross descended from Pomeranian and Siberian Husky parents. The American Pomsky Kennel Club’s 2025 standard says the earliest pairings used a Siberian Husky female and Pomeranian male, with artificial insemination used because of the parents’ size difference. It also recognizes that some newer lines include American Eskimo ancestry.
That means “Pomsky” does not always mean a simple 50/50 cross. Ask the breeder which generation is being offered, what breeds appear in the pedigree, and whether the puppy’s ancestry can be documented.

- A win-win solution: The FXW Dog Playpen is designed to bring a win-win solution to you and your lovely dog. Different from a narrow enclosure cage or kennel, the FXW dog pen provides a spacious semi-open activity area specifically for your dog. Your dog will have fun in its safe and sturdy kingdom. Meanwhile, you can take a real break and be truly relaxed without worrying about your beloved pet. Fun, Relaxation and Well-being is the orientation of the FXW team.
- Unlock your freedom, savor the moment: The stakes are designed with rounded ball tops to protect the dog's claws from injury. The rods are easily inserted into the ground for greater stability and rigidity, which won't collapse when the dog leans against them. Also, the automatic gravity-actioned locking mechanism will ensure you can open and close the door smoothly and reduces the chance of dogs unlocking by themselves. All of this is designed for absolute safety, so you can really relax.
- Super easy to assemble: It won’t take you more than 5 minutes to assemble these portable dog fences as well as pack them away due to the rod-connected design. Meanwhile, panels can be added or removed freely to give you a fully flexible area and arrange the dog pen in any shape you need.
- Multi-scenario use: The FXW dog playpen features a powder coating that will help protect against rust and extend its life, which makes it ideal for RV camping, traveling, or for use in the yard. When used indoors, we recommend placing it on a dog pad or carpet to prevent the rods from scratching the floor, or please try our new floor protectors or dog pee pad for the same purpose.
Pomsky is not an American Kennel Club-recognized breed. The AKC recognizes Pomeranians and Siberian Huskies, but not Pomskies. A seller’s use of the words “registered,” “certified,” or “AKC” should therefore be examined carefully. AKC registration of a parent or another dog does not prove that the Pomsky breeder is responsible.
How big will a Pomsky get?
Adult size is one of the least reliable Pomsky promises. The APKC’s 2025 standard uses the following categories:
| Category | Height at shoulder | Average weight |
|---|---|---|
| Toy | 11–13 inches | 7–15 pounds |
| Mini | 13.01–16 inches | 12–20 pounds |
| Standard | 16.01–18 inches | 20–35 pounds |
These are average ranges, not guarantees. A puppy advertised as “mini,” “toy,” or “teacup” may mature outside the label. “Teacup Pomsky” is not a universally recognized size class or health designation.
Do not rely only on the puppy’s current weight. Ask to see the mother and, when possible, the father. Request the adult weights and heights of grandparents and previous offspring from the same pairing. A responsible breeder should explain how the estimate was made and should not promise a precise adult size.
The APKC says its breeders agree not to breed females below 11 inches or 8 pounds because of risks such as cesarean delivery, low milk production, whelping complications, and weaker immune systems. Extremely small parents should prompt particularly careful questions about breeding practices and veterinary care.
Temperament and daily life
Pomskies are often affectionate, bright, playful, curious, and sociable. They can also inherit the Husky’s stamina and vocal nature and the Pomeranian’s alertness and tendency to bark. Howling, exuberance, high energy, prey drive, and escape behavior are all possible.
A small body does not automatically mean a low-maintenance dog. Before choosing a puppy, ask the breeder:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- How much daily exercise do the parents need?
- Are they frequent barkers or howlers?
- Do they try to escape yards, crates, or doors?
- How do they behave around children, cats, and unfamiliar dogs?
- How quickly do they settle indoors?
- What training and socialization has each puppy received?
Expect to provide daily walks, play, training, enrichment, and secure management. A Pomsky that is bored may bark, chew, dig, or look for an escape route. Use a properly fitted harness or collar, secure fencing, and careful door management; Husky ancestry can make roaming a serious concern.
Coat and shedding
Pomskies are generally double-coated. The APKC describes standard, plush, wooly, and extreme-wooly coat types, with seasonal undercoat loss possible. Coat length and color do not reliably predict personality or health.

- 8 connected panels with thumb clips for connecting the ends together; 2 locking slide-bolt door latches; 8 ground anchors for secure placement outdoors; made of durable iron wire with a rustproof finish
- Can be easily configured into multiple stand-alone shapes (round, square, rectangle) for playtime or be used to block off a room
- Sets up in seconds; simply unfold, shape, and connect (no tools needed); folds flat for easy transport and storage
- Note: Do not leave pets unattended outdoors
If you need a low-shedding or hypoallergenic dog, do not treat a breeder’s Pomsky claim as dependable. No dog is completely hypoallergenic, and a Pomsky may shed heavily, particularly during seasonal coat changes. Plan for regular brushing, vacuuming, and professional grooming if the coat becomes difficult to maintain.
Health testing to request before buying
There is no single universally adopted Pomsky testing protocol equivalent to the established protocol for a long-recognized AKC breed. Because the cross combines Pomeranian and Siberian Husky ancestry, the parents should be evaluated for relevant conditions affecting both breeds.

Siberian Husky parent
The Siberian Husky Club of America’s health statement, approved September 10, 2024, calls for or recommends:
- An annual eye examination by a board-certified ACVO veterinary ophthalmologist beginning at 12 months, registered with SHOR or OFA’s CAER.
- A hip evaluation through OFA, OVC, PennHIP, or an equivalent recognized registry.
- DNA testing for Siberian Husky Shaking Puppy Syndrome Type 1, also called SPS1.
- DNA testing for Siberian Husky Polyneuropathy Type 1, called SHPN1.
The club states that carrier dogs may be bred to clear dogs, but carriers should not be bred to carriers for these conditions. Ask for the actual results and the breeding plan, not just a statement that “DNA tested” appears in the advertisement.
Pomeranian parent
The American Pomeranian Club lists these health screens:
- Cardiac evaluation, basic or advanced.
- Patellar-luxation evaluation.
- An eye examination registered with OFA, or an approved autoimmune-thyroiditis evaluation as the CHIC health elective.
- OFA hip and Legg-Calvé-Perthes evaluations, listed as optional but recommended.
Request records for both parents. A puppy’s vaccination record or a DNA ancestry report does not replace examinations of the parents’ eyes, hips, heart, and patellas.

How to verify the documents
- Obtain the registered names and identifying information for both parents.
- Search those names in the OFA database, including disease type, kennel name, and relatives where possible.
- Compare the records with the breeder’s copies and confirm that the dog’s identity matches.
- Ask for the puppy’s veterinary examination, vaccination, and deworming records.
- Read the written contract and health guarantee before paying a deposit.
OFA explains that a CHIC number confirms that required tests were performed and publicly released; it does not mean that every result was normal. Similarly, a DNA test can identify ancestry or a particular inherited variant, but it cannot prove that a puppy is healthy.
If a parent is absent from the OFA database, that does not establish every possible fact about the dog, but OFA says it is reasonable to assume the dog has not been screened through OFA or that abnormal results were not authorized for publication. Ask the breeder to explain any missing record and verify results with the testing organization.
How to identify a responsible Pomsky breeder
A responsible breeder should be willing to let you see where the dogs live, meet the mother, and meet the father when he is available. The area should be clean, spacious, and maintained for the dogs’ welfare—not merely a polished room prepared for a video call.

The breeder should also:
- Show veterinary records for the puppy and parents.
- Explain the line’s known genetic and developmental risks.
- Describe socialization, handling, grooming exposure, and early training.
- Ask you questions about your home, schedule, experience, and plans.
- Provide a written contract and health guarantee.
- Agree to take the dog back or accept its return if you can no longer keep it.
- Breed sparingly rather than advertising an apparently unlimited supply of puppies.
The Humane Society of the United States warns that responsible breeders do not sell puppies through pet stores or online to people they have never met in person. A video call can help with preliminary screening, but an in-person visit is stronger evidence. If a breeder refuses a visit, treat that as a major warning sign.

Pomsky price: what can and cannot be concluded
There is no authoritative national Pomsky price schedule. Asking prices vary with location, generation, ancestry, health testing, coat, size, breeder practices, and demand. A single figure presented as the “current Pomsky price” is not reliable unless it comes from a documented, date-stamped sample of comparable listings.
Price should be treated as one part of the investigation, not as proof of quality. The FTC warns that scammers may advertise puppies for a few hundred dollars even when comparable puppies often sell for thousands. An unusually low price is a warning sign, but a high price does not prove ethical breeding, sound health, or good living conditions.
Before comparing prices, calculate the full commitment: veterinary care, food, grooming, training, secure fencing, crate and harness equipment, and potential treatment for inherited or accidental problems. A low purchase price can become expensive if the seller skipped appropriate health care.
Online Pomsky sale scams
Fake puppy advertisements commonly use stolen photographs, urgent pressure, unusually low prices, and requests for payment before the buyer receives the animal. The FTC warns against sellers who demand gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, or payment apps because those payments can be difficult to recover.
Watch for these specific warning signs:
- The seller refuses phone calls and communicates only by email or messaging.
- The same photographs or listing text appear on several websites.
- The seller claims to have an “AKC breeder badge.” The AKC says it does not distribute breeder badges.
- You are pressured to send a deposit immediately.
- The seller will not show the mother, current veterinary records, or the puppy in real time.
- The price is far below comparable puppies without a credible explanation.
- The seller insists that the puppy must be shipped and refuses an in-person meeting.
The fake transport-fee trap
In a common advance-fee scam, the seller demands more money after the first payment for a crate, insurance, climate control, vaccination, quarantine, or an alleged emergency during transport. The supposed shipping company may use a professional-looking website or tracking number.
Do not send another payment merely because someone says the puppy is “stuck.” Stop communicating, preserve the listing and payment records, contact your payment provider, and report suspected fraud to ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
Checks to complete before paying
- Search the seller’s name, kennel name, phone number, email address, and exact listing text with words such as “scam,” “complaint,” and “review.”
- Reverse-search the puppy photographs.
- Arrange a live video call showing the puppy, its mother, and a current date or identifier you request.
- Visit in person whenever possible.
- Verify both parents directly in the OFA database.
- Read the contract, return policy, and health guarantee before sending a deposit.
- Use a payment method with buyer protection, and avoid irreversible payments.
None of these steps makes an online seller automatically legitimate. The safest standard is still to meet the breeder and dogs in person before completing the purchase.

Adopting a Pomsky instead
Buying from a breeder is not the only route. Adult Pomskies and Pomsky mixes sometimes enter shelters, regional rescues, and breed-specific rescue programs. The APKC maintains an “Adopt a Pomsky!” page and rescue-related resources, while national pet-adoption databases can help locate dogs in different areas.
Availability changes frequently, so contact the rescue directly and confirm that the dog is still available, medically assessed, and suitable for your household. An adult dog may offer a clearer picture of its final size, coat, energy level, and behavior than a young puppy.
Pomsky buying checklist
| Before paying | What you should have |
|---|---|
| Identity | Seller’s real name, address, phone number, and verifiable kennel information |
| Parents | Names, identities, ancestry information, and an opportunity to meet the mother |
| Health | Eye, hip, cardiac, patellar, and applicable DNA records for both parents |
| Puppy care | Veterinary examination, vaccination dates, deworming dates, and identification details |
| Contract | Health guarantee, buyer obligations, return policy, and rehoming terms |
| Visit | In-person inspection of the dogs’ living conditions |
| Payment | A protected method agreed only after the seller and records are verified |
Walk away if the seller will not answer reasonable questions, refuses an in-person visit, hides the parents, supplies unverifiable records, or introduces new transport fees after payment. There will always be another puppy; a rushed decision is exactly what dishonest sellers want.
FAQ
Is a Pomsky an AKC-recognized breed?
No. The AKC recognizes Pomeranians and Siberian Huskies but does not recognize Pomsky as a breed. A private Pomsky registry or club is not equivalent to AKC recognition.
How big does a Pomsky get?
Size varies. The APKC’s 2025 categories list toy dogs at 11–13 inches and 7–15 pounds, mini dogs at 13.01–16 inches and 12–20 pounds, and standard dogs at 16.01–18 inches and 20–35 pounds. These are average ranges, not guarantees.
Are Pomskies hypoallergenic or low-shedding?
No reliable guarantee can be made. Pomskies are generally double-coated and may shed their undercoat seasonally. They should not be marketed as reliably hypoallergenic.
What health tests should Pomsky parents have?
Request verifiable eye, hip, cardiac, patellar, and relevant DNA testing. The Siberian Husky parent should be checked against the Siberian Husky Club of America’s recommendations, including eye, hip, SPS1, and SHPN1 testing. The Pomeranian parent should have cardiac and patellar evaluations plus the applicable eye or thyroid elective.
Does a CHIC number prove a Pomsky parent is healthy?
No. OFA says a CHIC number confirms that the required tests were performed and made public. It does not mean every result was normal.

No. “Teacup” is a marketing term, not a universally recognized Pomsky size category or health designation. Ask for the parents’ and relatives’ actual adult measurements instead.
How can I avoid a fake Pomsky listing?
Search the seller and listing text, reverse-search photographs, arrange a live call, verify parent records through OFA, visit in person, read the contract before paying, and avoid gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, and sudden transport or insurance fees.
The Bottom Line
A safe Pomsky purchase is based on verifiable parents, appropriate health testing, an in-person visit, a clear contract, and a breeder who will take responsibility for the dog throughout its life. Do not let a rare coat, tiny-size promise, private registry, or urgent deposit request replace those checks. If the seller refuses transparency, leave the deal.
