A 35-year-old motorcyclist was reportedly fined $376 in Queensland after police stopped her while she rode with a dog strapped to her chest. The amount and offence description are those reported for this incident by PerthNow on 23 May 2025; they do not establish the current fine for similar conduct.
What happened in the Queensland stop?
PerthNow reported that Queensland Police released footage of the stop at Alexandra Headland, where an officer from the Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol pulled over a woman riding a neon yellow motorcycle. A medium-sized, curly-haired dog was strapped against her chest in a harness, with its paws extended. The rider reportedly told the officer she had bought the harness from Temu.

Police issued a $376 traffic infringement notice for riding with an animal between her arms, according to the report. That is the amount reported for this case, not a verified current penalty schedule.

Coast Highway Patrol Senior Sergeant Shane Panoho said carrying the dog this way could obstruct the rider’s clear view of the road and her proper control of the motorcycle. PerthNow also attributed this comment to him: “Although the dog seemed to be comfortable on the bike, we urge riders to practice safe and responsible behaviour on our roads.”

Does this report establish whether you can ride with a dog in a chest harness?
No. The report does not identify the exact Queensland legislative provision behind the notice, verify the current penalty for the conduct, or set out a general legal rule for every way of transporting an animal on a motorcycle. It therefore cannot establish that a particular chest harness or motorcycle pet carrier is lawful or safe.
