Ask a prospective trainer to explain the reinforcers, management strategies, and handling choices used in your dog’s plan. You should be able to understand what the dog is learning, how stress is monitored, and how safety is maintained. AVSAB also explains that treats can be useful reinforcers for teaching new behavior and helping dogs generalize learned behavior in new contexts in its guide to reward-based training methods. No special brand of treat is required; use an appropriate, safe reinforcer your dog values and account for it in the daily diet.
