A woman returning from a trip heard a meow on the second landing of her apartment building and found a tiny tuxedo kitten. Cats.com’s May 22, 2026 story says she asked neighbors whether anyone had lost a kitten, but no one knew where the kitten came from. She later named her Gigi, and the two now live together.
How Gigi ended up upstairs
According to Cats.com, Gigi’s finder arrived home exhausted after a week-long trip and a late flight. She heard a meow on the second landing, where she discovered the small kitten and brought her inside. The finder asked neighbors if anyone was missing a kitten; the article says no one knew her origin.
The story says the finder took Gigi to a veterinarian the following week, where Gigi received vaccines and flea medication. No one came forward to claim her. The article does not name the finder or provide independent corroboration of the account.
Reflecting on the chance discovery, the finder said, “It’s really like a stork came and, like, placed her there.”

What to do if you find a very young kitten
Cats.com attributes the following recommendations to veterinarian Sarah Wooten. The article is the source for this advice; ask a veterinarian for guidance tailored to the kitten’s condition and age.
- Bring the kitten inside and keep her warm. The article suggests a room temperature around 75°F, presented as advice rather than an independently established standard.
- Offer fresh water and check for teeth. The article uses whether teeth are present to distinguish its suggested feeding options.
- Choose the food according to that cue. Cats.com says to give kitten formula to a kitten without teeth. For a kitten with teeth, it suggests canned kitten food mixed with formula. It warns against cow’s milk and adult cat food.
- Arrange prompt veterinary care. A veterinarian can assess the kitten and advise on appropriate care.
- Keep the kitten apart from resident pets until checked. The article recommends separation until a veterinary examination and testing for infections such as FIV or FeLV.
