A husky named Maya reportedly escaped her kennel repeatedly at an unnamed Richmond, Virginia, shelter. Staff changed where the kennel stood, placing it flush against a wall. The story’s headline says staff found her sitting on it, while its account describes finding her outside the kennel after an escape. It does not explain how she got out.
What the story reports about Maya
A-Z Animals published Ashley Driggs’s account on October 5, 2026. It says Maya repeatedly got out of her kennel at a shelter in Richmond, Virginia, and staff found her outside it. The story does not identify the shelter or rescue, and it does not give a precise explanation of how Maya escaped. Read the A-Z Animals account.
AOL published a syndicated version on the same date. Because it repeats substantially the same account, it is not independent confirmation of Maya’s history or placement. Read the AOL version.
Why staff moved the kennel
The account says staff repositioned the kennel so it sat flush against a wall. It does not say that the kennel was defective, describe a tested escape-prevention method, or name a product. The reported change is a detail about this shelter’s response—not evidence that placing any kennel against a wall will reliably prevent escapes.

What the story says about Maya’s past

Was Maya adopted?
At the time of publication on October 5, 2026, the article said Maya had moved to a foster home and was waiting for a permanent home. The account does not identify the responsible organization or provide an authorized listing, so it does not establish whether she is available now.
