Simba Cam at baseball games looks like fun, but you should try it with your dog only if your dog is healthy, comfortable with crowds and other dogs, tolerant of loud sounds, controllable on a compliant leash, and eligible under the stadium’s rules. Never lift a nervous or struggling dog overhead for a jumbotron photo.
The feature is a playful reference to The Lion King, not a reason to expose a dog to heat, fireworks, crowd stress, or uncomfortable handling. Bark at the Park policies differ by team, so check the current event details before buying tickets.
Key takeaways
- Simba Cam is a jumbotron feature inspired by Rafiki lifting Simba in The Lion King, but not every Bark at the Park event includes it.
- Bring a dog to a baseball game only when the dog is healthy, venue-eligible, comfortable with crowds and other dogs, tolerant of loud sounds, and reliably controllable on leash.
- Do not lift a nervous, large, struggling, or unfamiliar-with-being-carried dog overhead for the camera; a supported ground-level appearance is safer.
- Ballpark rules vary, but official policies may require a separate dog ticket, vaccination records, identification, adult supervision, designated seating, and a non-retractable leash.
- Heat, fireworks, amplified music, long walks, stairs, and an inability to leave quickly can make a dog-friendly baseball event unsuitable.
What is Simba Cam at baseball games?
Simba Cam is a ballpark jumbotron feature modeled on the scene in The Lion King in which Rafiki presents Simba. Fans hear the opening notes of “Circle of Life” and raise a small creature so the stadium camera can find them on the screen. MLB Cut4 documented the Milwaukee Brewers combining the feature with Bark at the Park on July 16, 2019, in its report on dogs being raised like Simba at a baseball game.
The name and format are not universal. A team might call the feature “Simba Cam,” “Simba Moment,” or something else, and a dog-friendly game might not include it at all. Check the team’s current official event page instead of buying tickets on the assumption that a Simba segment will happen.

Should you bring your dog to a baseball game?
Bring your dog only if the dog—not the camera opportunity—is comfortable with the complete event. A suitable candidate is healthy, relaxed around unfamiliar people and other dogs, tolerant of loud sounds, able to manage the weather and walking demands, and controllable by an attentive adult on a compliant leash.
A dog that is fearful, reactive, aggressive, medically vulnerable, heat-sensitive, or difficult to control is usually better off at home. A dog-friendly ticket does not make a crowded stadium a dog-friendly experience for every individual dog.
How can you decide whether your dog is ready?
Use the following suitability test before purchasing tickets. Passing one test does not cancel out failing another.
Is your dog comfortable around crowds and other dogs?
A dog that remains relaxed and responsive around unfamiliar people, close-moving crowds, and other dogs may cope with a designated ballpark area. A dog that becomes overwhelmed at busy parks, crowded walks, or dog-friendly stores is a poor candidate for a baseball game. Official Bark at the Park policies commonly require dogs to tolerate crowds and other dogs; review the Cleveland Guardians’ eligibility rules and the Minnesota Twins’ event information for examples of venue-specific requirements.
Can your dog handle amplified music, announcements, and fireworks?
Baseball games can include loud music, public-address announcements, cheering, and sometimes fireworks. Cleveland’s official Bark In The Park rules specifically exclude dogs that do not like loud noises or fireworks. If your dog hides, trembles, pants excessively, freezes, tries to escape, or becomes difficult to control around loud sounds, staying home is the kinder decision.

Do not treat the event as a test of whether your dog can “get over” noise fear for a fun photograph. Move away from the noise or leave if a dog that initially seemed comfortable begins showing stress.
Is your dog physically suited to the stadium?
Consider heat, sun exposure, stairs, ramps, walking distance, waiting time, and the length of the game. The Milwaukee Brewers’ Bark at the Park guidance warns that heat can be dangerous, particularly for older dogs, short-muzzled dogs, and dogs that overheat quickly.
An elderly, ill, injured, recovering, or brachycephalic dog should not attend merely because the event sounds entertaining. A cooling vest or other accessory cannot replace shade, water, weather judgment, or the decision to leave early.

Official event policies may require current rabies and other vaccinations, identification tags, a dog ticket, adult supervision, and proof of vaccination. Some events set a minimum age of six months, while other events may publish different limits. Dogs showing signs of illness should stay home.
Requirements differ from stadium to stadium. For example, the New York Mets’ Bark at the Park page describes designated dog seating and a separate dog ticket, while the Twins’ published information identifies designated seating, relief areas, water stations, and veterinary availability. Those details should be verified for the specific game you plan to attend.

- Lightweight and simple design, matching all collar of your dogs.
- Easy on and easy off hook.
- Suitable for small and medium size breeds.
- Dimension: length: 6 feet. Width: 1 inch and 3/4 inch for your choice.
Can one adult keep the dog under control?
Your dog must remain on leash and under attentive adult supervision. Leash rules vary: Cleveland prohibits retractable leashes and leashes longer than six feet, Minnesota specifies a non-retractable leash, and San Diego requires a leash no longer than six feet. Read the San Diego Padres’ Barkyard requirements and the current rules for your own venue.
A properly fitted harness can help keep a suitable dog close if the dog already feels comfortable wearing it. Equipment cannot compensate for fear, aggression, poor leash manners, or a handler who cannot remove the dog quickly.

Keep the dog on the ground or hold a small, comfortable dog close to your body with full support; do not extend the dog overhead just to recreate the movie scene. Daily Paws notes that some dogs dislike being picked up and may wriggle free, and recommends holding a small dog normally while allowing larger dogs to remain on the ground. Its guidance on Simba Cam and dogs supports making the dog’s comfort the deciding factor.
- Let the camera capture you and your dog standing or sitting naturally.
- Pick up a small dog only when the dog is genuinely comfortable being carried and the dog’s chest, hindquarters, and body are fully supported.
- Never lift a large dog, nervous dog, struggling dog, or dog that is not accustomed to being carried.
- Stop trying to appear on camera if the dog shows stress; move to a quieter area or leave.
The best Simba Cam appearance may involve no Simba lift at all. A safe, calm dog beside its handler is a better result than a few seconds on the jumbotron followed by a fall, escape, or frightened reaction.
What do baseball stadium dog policies usually require?
Baseball stadium rules are not interchangeable. Confirm every requirement on the current official event page before buying tickets.

| Requirement to check | Why it matters | Examples from published venue information |
|---|---|---|
| Dog admission and ticket | A normal human ticket may not admit a dog. | The Mets describe designated dog seating and a separate dog ticket. |
| Permitted seating and routes | Dogs may be restricted to designated sections or entrances. | Designated dog areas are described in official event information from the Mets, Twins, and Mariners. |
| Vaccination and identification | Proof of vaccination, tags, or other records may be checked. | Official policies can require current rabies or other vaccinations and identification. |
| Leash type and length | Retractable or excessively long leashes can violate venue rules. | Cleveland prohibits retractable leashes and leashes longer than six feet; San Diego requires a leash no longer than six feet. |
| Age and supervision | Events may set a minimum dog age and require adult supervision. | Some published policies use six months as a minimum age, but the event page controls. |
| Relief, water, and veterinary support | These services make basic care and an early exit more manageable. | The Twins identify relief areas, water stations, and veterinary availability; the Seattle Mariners’ event announcement described dog areas, water, comfort stations, and veterinary support. |
| Weather and noise schedule | Heat and fireworks can create a welfare or safety problem. | The Brewers warn about heat; Cleveland’s rules address loud noises and fireworks. |
Before attending, verify whether dogs are admitted at that particular game, whether a dog ticket is required, where dogs may sit and walk, what vaccination documents are accepted, the minimum age, adult-to-dog limits, leash rules, water and relief arrangements, weather policies, and the process for leaving with a distressed dog.
What should you pack for Bark at the Park?
Pack for control, hydration, identification, cleanup, weather, and a quick exit rather than for the camera moment.
- A non-retractable fixed-length dog leash: Official policies at several venues require a fixed or non-retractable leash, and some specify a maximum length. A fixed-length leash is a practical pre-game purchase, not a guarantee that a dog is ready for a stadium.
- A familiar harness: Use a properly fitted harness only if your dog already wears it comfortably.
- Identification and documents: Bring a visible ID tag and any vaccination or health documentation the venue requires.
- Water and a collapsible bowl: Confirm whether the stadium supplies water and bring a bowl if the rules permit it.
- Waste bags: Use the venue’s designated relief areas and clean up promptly.
- Weather-appropriate equipment: Clothing or cooling gear may help in some conditions, but cannot make a heat-sensitive dog safe in unsuitable weather.
- Permitted treats: Bring familiar treats only if the venue allows them and if treats will not increase tension around other dogs.
- An exit plan: Know the route out before the event begins and be willing to leave early.
Should you bring the dog or leave the dog at home?
The comparison below is a practical welfare decision, not a pass-or-fail behavior test.
| Decision area | Bringing the dog may be reasonable | Leaving the dog home is wiser |
|---|---|---|
| Crowds | The dog is relaxed and controllable around unfamiliar people. | The dog is fearful, reactive, aggressive, or overwhelmed. |
| Other dogs | The dog can share space calmly. | The dog becomes stressed or confrontational around dogs. |
| Noise | The dog has tolerated game-like noise and fireworks. | The dog fears loud music, announcements, cheering, or fireworks. |
| Physical condition | The dog is healthy and can walk, wait, and manage the weather. | The dog is ill, injured, mobility-limited, elderly and frail, or heat-sensitive. |
| Venue compliance | The dog is vaccinated, identified, ticketed, and leash-ready. | The dog cannot meet the event’s requirements. |
| Handler capacity | An attentive adult can supervise and leave quickly. | The handler cannot safely manage or remove the dog. |
What is the safest answer about Simba Cam and your dog?
Try a dog-friendly baseball game only when your dog is healthy, social, noise-tolerant, leash-controlled, venue-eligible, and able to cope with the weather and crowd. Do not lift a dog overhead for Simba Cam unless a small dog is completely comfortable being carried and fully supported; otherwise, keep the dog on the ground or watch the jumbotron from home.
If you are uncertain about noise sensitivity, anxiety, heat tolerance, or a medical condition, ask your veterinarian before committing to a crowded outdoor event. A veterinary behavior professional may also help with an individual dog’s fear or reactivity, but professional advice does not override the dog’s need for a low-stress environment or the venue’s rules.

“One of the better in-game entertainment innovations of the past decade has been the introduction of Simba Cam.” — Andrew Mearns, MLB Cut4 writer, July 16, 2019, in MLB Cut4’s report.
“All dogs MUST be on a leash at all times while on the American Family Field premises.” — Milwaukee Brewers’ official Bark at the Park policy, available on the Brewers’ event page.
No reliable statistic establishes how many dogs enjoy Simba Cam or how frequently dogs become distressed at these events. The decision should therefore be based on the individual dog’s behavior, health, and response to the actual venue conditions—not on the apparent popularity of the jumbotron feature.
