Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Smalls is a frozen, gently cooked cat food sold through a subscription, with a sampler intended to help you see whether your cat likes it before recurring deliveries begin. The company says its recipes are complete and balanced for every life stage, but the available evidence here does not include independent nutritional testing. Whether it suits your household comes down to your cat’s response, the ongoing cost and plan terms, and whether frozen-food handling fits your routine.
What Smalls sells and how the plan works
Smalls’ U.S. sampler page, viewed October 7, 2026, lists ten packs of gently cooked frozen food. At that time, the page displayed a $26 sampler price with $52 struck through, followed by 28 packs every four weeks. Those are live-page figures, not guaranteed prices or terms: check the current contents, renewal date, and charge at checkout before placing an order. Smalls says customers can edit, pause, or cancel their plan anytime; confirm the relevant account controls and order cutoff dates for your shipment.

The page presents a variety option as well as poultry and fish choices. A sampler can help you see which textures or recipes your cat will eat, but the first order also leads into a recurring plan unless you change it. Account for the amount your cat actually consumes, not just the introductory price.

The image-described guide on the sampler page suggests half a packet per day for a 5-pound cat, one packet for a 10-pound cat, and one and a half packets for a 15-pound cat. This is Smalls’ general guide, not an individualized feeding prescription. The accessible page does not give an energy calculation for every cat or a complete transition schedule, so ask your veterinarian about portions and a gradual diet change if your cat has special needs.

Recipes, ingredients, and preparation
Smalls lists five protein pairings: beef and beef liver, chicken and chicken liver, pork and pork liver, cod and salmon, and turkey and turkey liver. The company says its recipes contain at least 80% animal protein and use USDA-certified cuts. It also says the fresh food is gently cooked in human-grade, USDA-certified facilities in New Jersey and Ohio, then frozen and shipped. These are company descriptions; the available evidence does not independently verify facility conditions or test the recipes.
On its homepage, Smalls says the recipes are formulated with veterinary nutritionists and certified complete and balanced for every life stage. The company describes the formulation as veterinarian approved. That is not the same as a veterinarian recommending the food for an individual cat or a particular medical condition.

What the cooking-safety statement establishes
In a company safety article dated January 28, 2025, Smalls says its fresh recipes are gently cooked to a minimum internal temperature of 165°F and that its fresh-food facilities are inspected daily by USDA and FDA. These are the company’s stated practices, not independently confirmed inspection records in the available evidence. The temperature claim describes the cooking process; it does not replace safe handling and storage instructions for food after delivery.

What independent review evidence says about cats’ preferences
A Cats.com review page indexed as updated August 28, 2026, identifies reviewer Kate Barrington as an NAVC-certified Pet Nutrition Coach. The search-result excerpt says she ordered each fresh recipe plus freeze-dried chicken for the updated review. It reports that the frozen packets arrived safely and that her cats liked the flavors but showed different preferences. That is one reviewer’s reported experience, not a prediction of how any particular cat will respond.

Cost, convenience, and fit: what to weigh
- Ongoing cost: Work out the recurring order total using the current quantity, shipping details, and any recipe surcharge, then compare it with the amount your cat is likely to eat. Do not treat the sampler’s displayed promotional price as the ongoing cost.
- Acceptance and texture: Cats can differ in which recipe they prefer. Use the sampler to observe your own cat’s response rather than assuming that another household’s experience will transfer.
- Frozen-food routine: Make sure you have freezer space and a workable routine for thawing, serving, and storing food. Consider whether delivery timing suits your household.
- Plan management: The current sampler page says the plan can be edited, paused, or canceled. Check the applicable account controls and cutoff dates rather than assuming a change will affect an order already being prepared.
- Nutritional fit: Smalls’ complete-and-balanced statement is a useful starting point, but a cat with a diagnosed condition or special dietary needs may need a veterinarian’s guidance before changing food.
Recall history: a limited 2021 event
An archived voluntary recall notice hosted by Petful documents a 2021 recall of select Smalls Fresh Chicken and Fresh Turkey items: Ground Bird, Smooth Bird, Ground Other Bird, and Smooth Other Bird. The notice lists affected batch numbers 21109 through 21136. It says customers reported a spoiled appearance or unusual odor, the company investigated and sent samples to a lab, and the recall was made in consultation with FDA. The notice states that no other Smalls products were affected by that voluntary recall.

Verdict: who should consider Smalls?
Smalls may be worth considering if your cat accepts its recipes, the recurring order works with your budget, and you can manage frozen deliveries and storage. Its sampler offers a practical way to test acceptance, while its complete-and-balanced claim is the company’s formulation statement rather than independent nutritional verification. Before subscribing, confirm the live order details and decide whether the ongoing routine—not just the first sampler—fits your cat and household.
