Stella & Chewy’s offers freeze-dried raw, raw-coated kibble, and canned cat food, so whether it is a good choice depends on the specific recipe and your cat’s needs. Cats.com gives the brand 6.5/10 overall (39/60, B-) in a review last updated January 14, 2026. Its scores favor species appropriateness, ingredients, and variety, but mark down price, customer experience, and recall history. That is Cats.com’s assessment—not a regulatory safety determination or an individual veterinary recommendation.

Overall, Is Stella & Chewy’s a Good Choice?

It may suit households looking for meat-forward recipes in several formats, but the brand is not one uniform diet. Check the ingredients, moisture, intended life stage, feeding practicality, and cost of the individual product. Cats.com’s review states: “The brand’s recipes deliver straightforward, meat-first nutrition without unnecessary additives or carbohydrate content.” That is the review’s characterization, not a clinical finding.

Review category Cats.com score
Species appropriateness 9/10
Ingredient quality 8/10
Product variety 8/10
Price 5/10
Customer experience 5/10
Recall history 4/10
Overall 6.5/10; 39/60, B-

These are Cats.com’s editorial ratings under its own framework, in the review last updated January 14, 2026; they are not standardized clinical scores.

What kinds of cat food does Stella & Chewy’s sell?

The Cats.com review describes freeze-dried dinner morsels, raw-coated kibble, canned food, and freeze-dried raw treats. Its named wet-food lines include Purrfect Paté, Morsels ’N’ Gravy, and Savory Shreds. The review also says frozen cat food had been discontinued and a quick-thaw replacement was slated for 2025. Since that target date has passed, current availability should be checked rather than inferred from that note.

The company’s freeze-dried foods are described by Cats.com as containing at least 98% muscle meat, organs, and bones. That composition is relevant when comparing recipes, especially for cats whose diets need phosphorus limits.

How do the reviewed recipes compare?

The figures below come from Cats.com’s review, which presents guaranteed-analysis values for the freeze-dried morsels and its own automatically calculated dry-matter charts for the recipes. Calculated values are not manufacturer typical analyses, and Cats.com notes its automatic calculations may differ from typical nutrient values. CatFoodDB separately analyzes products in its database; its estimates should not be treated as a feeding trial or as manufacturer guarantees.

Recipe Ingredients and format Reported nutrient details Main trade-off noted
Chick Chick Chicken Dinner Morsels Freeze-dried; chicken with ground bone, chicken liver, and chicken gizzard among the first ingredients, followed by pumpkin seed and supplements. Cats.com lists guaranteed analysis of 45% protein, 25% fat, 5% fiber, 5% moisture, 1.85% phosphorus, and 0.2% taurine. Its calculated dry-matter chart shows 47.37% protein, 26.32% fat, 5.26% fiber, and 21.05% carbohydrates. CatFoodDB’s separate product analysis reports 47.4% protein, 26.3% fat, and 13.7% carbohydrates on a dry-matter basis. Ground bone and the reported phosphorus level may make it unsuitable for cats with kidney disease or other phosphorus-limiting needs; ask your veterinarian about an individual cat’s diet.
Raw Coated Kibble Cage-Free Duck Recipe Dry kibble with duck and turkey meal among the first ingredients; lentils and peas are also listed. Cats.com’s calculated dry-matter chart shows 38.64% protein, 17.61% fat, 5.68% fiber, and 29.11% carbohydrates. CatFoodDB reports 30.1% carbohydrates on a dry-matter basis for this duck kibble. It has less moisture than wet food, and the recipe includes legumes. Consider those differences alongside your cat’s needs and preferences.
Carnivore Cravings Purrfect Paté Chicken & Salmon in Broth Kitten Recipe Wet pâté; cage-free chicken, chicken broth, wild-caught salmon, and dried egg are among the first ingredients. Cats.com lists 78% moisture. Its calculated dry-matter chart shows 50% protein, 27.27% fat, 6.82% fiber, and 5.27% carbohydrates. Its moisture is higher than dry food, while the review notes sunflower oil as the primary added fat. The recipe is identified as a kitten formula.

The freeze-dried product is listed as Stella & Chewy’s Chick Chick Chicken Dinner Morsels freeze-dried raw cat food. Check the current listing and price; the bone and phosphorus caveat above is important for cats on restricted-phosphorus diets.

What should you consider about raw and freeze-dried food?

Freeze-dried recipes are a different format from cooked canned food or dry kibble, and the choice affects feeding routine as well as nutrition. Compare the actual recipe rather than assuming every product under the same brand has the same moisture, ingredients, or suitability. Cats.com reports that the company uses a high-pressure-processing process it calls SecureByNature, that its foods are made in an FDA-inspected facility in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area, and that the company says it uses independent laboratory testing with lot-code results available. Those are claims reported by the review, not an independent verification here.

How much does Stella & Chewy’s cost?

Cats.com estimates the following daily costs for its comparison of a 10-pound cat eating 200 calories per day. These are the review’s estimates, not guaranteed current prices; actual cost depends on the product, portion, retailer, and current pricing.

Format Cats.com estimated cost per day
Freeze-dried food About $4–$6
Kibble Under $1
Canned food $3–$4

Comparing cost per day on a consistent calorie basis is more useful than comparing package prices alone.

What is known about recalls and customer feedback?

Cats.com reports two recalls in 2015 involving potential Listeria contamination and affecting dog and cat products. The review also describes a 2025 company statement about avian flu concerns, saying no Stella & Chewy’s products were affected by a then-recent frozen raw pet-food recall. That statement should not be read as evidence that the brand has never had a safety issue. A complete current regulatory recall record was not independently established here.

The review summarizes positive customer comments about palatability and negative comments about price, food refusal, bone content, and texture or dust. It reproduces individual retailer reviews dated December 2025 and January 2026. These are selected anecdotes, not a representative survey or quantified measure of customer satisfaction.
