The 12 Best Pet Hair Removers of 2026

The best pet hair remover depends on where fur collects. These 12 tested picks cover cordless convenience, deep carpet cleaning, allergies, hardwood floors, upholstery, and automated daily maintenance.

Pet hair removers are not interchangeable. A cordless stick vacuum is convenient for daily crumbs and fur, a bagged upright is better for deep carpet cleaning and cleaner disposal, and a rubber brush may be the fastest solution for a sofa or car seat. The picks below reflect those differences rather than forcing one vacuum into every home.

For this list, “pet hair remover” includes full-size vacuums, cordless vacuums, canisters, and one robot vacuum. The rankings draw on current testing from RTINGS and Good Housekeeping, with attention to embedded hair, upholstery, filtration, dust disposal, battery limits, and real-world maintenance.

The 12 best pet hair removers

1. Dyson V15 Detect — Best overall cordless pet hair remover

The Dyson V15 Detect is the strongest all-round choice if you want one cordless machine for carpet, hard floors, upholstery, and daily fur. RTINGS ranks it as its top pet-hair vacuum, reporting excellent pickup across those surfaces. Its particle sensor can detect dust levels and adjust suction automatically, while the laser-equipped hard-floor head helps reveal fine debris that is easy to miss.

It also offers strong filtration, which matters when loose dander is part of the problem. The compromises are typical of powerful cordless vacuums: the dirt compartment is small, emptying it can release a visible dust cloud, and RTINGS measured only about eight minutes in its highest-power testing. Treat its advertised longer runtime as a low-power figure, not as the time you can expect with the motorized head on maximum suction.

  • Know when it's full: the translucent window shows you when its time to empty
  • Easy empty: A latch keeps the dust bin door secured in place and is simple to open with a press of the button
  • Reusable and sturdy: no more ripping and throwing away sticky tape
  • Comfortable grip: rubber, over-molded grip for better handheld comfort
  • Amazing pick up: remove dog hair and cat hair easily

2. Dyson Ball Animal 3 Extra — Best corded upright

Choose the Ball Animal 3 Extra when embedded fur and large carpeted areas matter more than low weight. RTINGS gives it near-single-pass pet-hair pickup and includes HEPA filtration, a pet-grooming tool, and stair tools among its advantages. Because it is corded, it can continue cleaning without a battery swap or a drop in performance as the battery runs down.

This is a substantial upright, however, and it is louder and less maneuverable than a cordless stick. Its bulky floorhead can be awkward near edges, and bagless emptying is not ideal for allergy-sensitive users. It is best suited to houses with plenty of carpet, rather than small apartments where carrying and storing a heavy machine becomes annoying.

3. Kenmore Intuition Bagged — Best budget full-size model

The Kenmore Intuition Bagged is the practical pick for shoppers who want a full-size cleaner without paying Dyson or Miele prices. RTINGS rates its general cleaning highly and highlights its self-sealing bags and effective particle filtration. The bag closes when removed, so disposing of collected fur and dander is less dusty than tipping a bagless cup into a trash can.

Its pet-hair pickup does not match the Dyson V15 Detect or Ball Animal 3 Extra, and it is an upright-style machine rather than a compact stick. Still, for a home that needs reliable floor cleaning, a larger capacity than most cordless models, and cleaner disposal, it is a sensible value choice. Remember to include replacement bags in the ownership cost.

4. Miele Guard S1 Electro — Best for allergies

The Guard S1 Electro is the better choice when pet hair and airborne particles are equally important. RTINGS identifies it as a current canister pick, with excellent pet-hair and upholstery performance, a powered brush roll, and strong particle-filtration and air-quality scores. Its bagged design keeps the collected material enclosed during disposal.

Do not mistake it for the best cleaner on every floor: RTINGS’ published hard-floor score is only 5.0. It also requires ongoing replacement bags. Pick it for carpet, furniture, and cleaner air handling, particularly in an allergy-conscious household, rather than for a home dominated by bare floors.

Rank #2
ChomChom Roller Pet Hair Remover – Original Size Reusable Lint Roller for Cat & Dog Hair on Furniture, Couch, Carpet, Car, Rugs & Bedding – Portable, Eco-Friendly (White)
  • NO MORE HAIR EVERYWHERE: The ultimate pet hair roller for effective dog and cat hair removal. Far superior to traditional lint rollers for pet hair or sticky rollers, the ChomChom ensures deep cleaning.
  • CONVENIENT: Take the ‘fur’ out of ‘furniture’ once and for all! Ideal for cleaning couches, pillows, rugs, and more. Whether it's furniture, your car, or a carpet, this pet lint roller is an essential tool for all pet owners.
  • VERSATILE: Not just a dog lint roller, it's adept at cat hair removal too. The lint roller for pet hair extra sticky capability ensures every strand is picked up, leaving your spaces hair-free.
  • EASY TO USE: Just roll back and forth along any surface to trap fur and lint into the built-in receptacle. When you’re all done, just press down on the release button to open the pet fur remover and empty it out completely. Purr-fectly simple!
  • SUSTAINABLE - This reusable lint roller requires no adhesives or sticky tape, and can be used again and again.

5. Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Turbo Plus Lightweight — Best pet-focused upright

Good Housekeeping names this Bissell its best overall vacuum for pet hair. The brush roll is designed to resist tangles, while an internal hair-spooling system gathers fur into a clump instead of allowing it to wind around the brush. It also has sealed filtration, an odor-control filter, and an LED crevice tool for dark gaps and edges.

At 13.75 pounds with a 30-foot cord, it is manageable for an upright, though not as effortless as a stick vacuum. The 0.75-liter dust cup is relatively small for this category, and it is bagless, so emptying requires more care if dander bothers you.

6. Hoover WindTunnel Tangle Guard Bagless Upright — Best value upright

The Hoover is a useful value option for homes that need corded upright capacity. Good Housekeeping lists a 1.5-liter dust cup, HEPA filter, 15-pound weight, and 30-foot cord. That combination gives it more range and less frequent emptying than many cordless alternatives at a lower price than premium models.

Check the exact model number before ordering. Retailer listings may shorten or slightly vary the product name, so confirm that the listing is the WindTunnel Tangle Guard version rather than an older or similarly named Hoover. It is bagless, despite the filtration claim, and should not be presented as a bagged allergy solution.

7. Kenmore Elite 31150 Pet Friendly — Best bagged upright

The Kenmore Elite 31150 is for shoppers who want the carpet reach of an upright and the cleaner disposal of a bag. Good Housekeeping selects it as its bagged-upright pick and lists a HEPA filter, a 26-foot cord, and a 24-pound weight. The long cord is useful in larger rooms, while the sealed bag keeps collected debris contained until replacement.

Its weight is the central drawback. This is not the machine to choose if stairs, frequent carrying, or tight storage are major concerns. Factor in replacement bags, but also consider that a bagged vacuum can be preferable to a bagless one when emptying fur and dander is unpleasant.

Pet Hair Remover for Furniture-17.3" Reusable Lint Brush for Dog & Cat Hair
  • Efficient Pet Hair Removal Tool: Bidirectional hair removal brush swiftly and effectively removes pet hair back and forth from your sofa and furniture. The 7.3-inch wide fur cleaning area effortlessly lifts shed dog fur, cat fur, and various pet hair
  • Convenient Design for Effortless Operation: Featuring a 17.3-inch reach, this lint brush allows you to clean without bending over, reducing back strain and effort. Easily reach under sofas and behind beds
  • Waste-Reducing & Cost-Saving: Reusable design with no consumables needed, reducing waste and environmental impact. A cost-effective solution as a cat and dog hair remover for furniture, saving you money in the long run
  • Furniture Protection & Easy to Clean: Fine fleece design with non-damaging bristles removes pet hair from fabric sofas. Pet hair forms into neat strips for easy hand removal, while the back brush clears fine fuzz from the main brush
  • Multifunctional Lint & Pet Hair Remover Brush: The small soft brush on the back captures floating pet hairs, while the hidden tail brush removes embedded hair from clothes and tight crevices. Its flexible design also easily wipes away dust and dirt from smooth surfaces like upholstery or windows

8. Miele Boost CX1 Cat & Dog — Best bagless canister

The Boost CX1 Cat & Dog gives you canister maneuverability without disposable bags. Good Housekeeping found its turbo brush effective on carpet and hard floors and lists four suction settings, a 1-liter dust cup, and a HEPA filter. The adjustable suction is useful when moving from rugs to delicate bare flooring or upholstery.

At 18 pounds, it is heavier than many stick vacuums, and its 21-foot cord provides a 32-foot operating radius—not a 32-foot cord. It is also more expensive than many alternatives. This is a good fit for someone who prefers a canister’s hose and floorhead control but does not want recurring bag purchases.

9. Dyson V12 Detect Slim — Best lightweight pet hair remover

At about 5.2 pounds, the Dyson V12 Detect Slim is the easiest recommendation for quick cleanups, stairs, and homes where a heavy vacuum will stay in the closet. Good Housekeeping highlights its laser hard-floor head, anti-tangle hair tool, and HEPA filtration. The laser is particularly useful for spotting fine fur on dark or polished floors.

The small 0.35-liter bin fills faster than a full-size vacuum, and no second battery is included. Dyson’s “up to 50 minutes” figure is a manufacturer claim that depends on the selected mode and tool; it is not a promise of 50 minutes of maximum-power carpet cleaning.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

10. Kenmore Pet-Friendly Pop-N-Go — Best for hardwood floors

The Pop-N-Go is the strongest choice here for a mostly hardwood home that still has pet hair on rugs, furniture, and stairs. Good Housekeeping reports strong carpet and hard-floor suction in lab testing, plus a motorized pet-hair attachment and a foot-operated bare-floor attachment. Its bagged design also reduces the mess of disposing of fur.

This is a corded canister, not a cordless floor cleaner, and it is heavier than comparable canister models. That trade-off is worthwhile if controlled bare-floor cleaning and enclosed dust disposal matter more than grab-and-go convenience.

Rank #4
ChomChom Roller Pet Hair Remover – Original Size Reusable Lint Roller for Cat & Dog Hair on Furniture, Couch, Carpet, Car, Rugs & Bedding – Portable, Eco-Friendly (Black)
  • NO MORE HAIR EVERYWHERE: The ultimate pet hair roller, now available in black, for effective dog and cat hair removal.

11. Bissell PowerClean FurGuard Self-Standing Cordless — Best self-standing stick

The PowerClean FurGuard is a useful middle ground between a full-size vacuum and a lightweight daily cleaner. Good Housekeeping testers gave it 5/5 for pet-hair removal, and its FurFinder attachment performed well on embedded hair in furniture, chairs, and stairs. The self-cleaning brush roll and self-standing design make it convenient to pause and store without leaning it against furniture.

Some testers found it difficult to maneuver on high-pile carpet. Its listed weight is 7.3 pounds, and the advertised runtime is up to 50 minutes; actual time will vary with the head and power setting. It is a strong choice for homes with lots of upholstery and stairs, but not necessarily for thick carpet throughout the house.

12. Ecovacs Deebot X9 Pro Omni — Best automated option

The Deebot X9 Pro Omni is the choice for reducing the amount of daily pet hair that reaches the floor. Good Housekeeping found strong carpet pet-hair pickup and especially strong mopping performance. Its listed specifications include up to 252 minutes of claimed runtime, a 3-liter capacity, and an antibacterial filter.

It should supplement—not replace—a proper vacuum. Good Housekeeping found bare-floor vacuum pickup was not its strongest area, and robot vacuums cannot reliably extract every embedded hair from carpet, clean upholstery, or handle every pet-related accident. If you are considering alternatives, RTINGS currently rates the Roborock Saros Z70 as its top robot pick for pet hair, citing excellent hard-floor pickup, good carpet pickup, a multifunction self-emptying dock, and strong obstacle avoidance. RTINGS also warns that its robotic arm has inconsistent real-world reliability and that fine-particle containment is weaker.

How to choose a pet hair remover

Match the machine to the surface

  • Wall-to-wall carpet: choose a powered brush roll with effective agitation, such as the Dyson Ball Animal 3 Extra or Bissell Pet Hair Eraser.
  • Mostly hardwood: prioritize a controllable bare-floor head and soft or adjustable cleaning; the Kenmore Pop-N-Go is the most targeted pick here.
  • Furniture and stairs: look for a motorized upholstery tool. The Dyson V15, Miele Guard S1 Electro, and Bissell FurGuard are especially practical.
  • Mixed floors and quick messes: a cordless model is convenient, but expect a smaller bin and finite battery life.

Do not judge by suction alone

Pet-hair pickup depends on the brush roll, bristle design, floorhead seal, and agitation—not just the motor’s advertised suction. A vacuum can move plenty of air and still leave hair woven into carpet if its head does not disturb the fibers effectively. Testing should distinguish pet-hair pickup from general suction, hard-floor performance, upholstery cleaning, and filtration.

Bagged versus bagless

Bagged models are generally easier to empty cleanly. RTINGS observed a dust cloud when emptying the bagless Dyson V15 Detect and Dyson Ball Animal 3 Extra, while the self-sealing bags in the Kenmore Intuition contained debris more effectively. A HEPA label does not guarantee that no allergens escape during disposal, so allergy-sensitive households should consider the entire dust path and emptying process.

What “tangle-free” really means

Anti-tangle systems reduce the amount of hair wrapped around a brush roll; they do not eliminate maintenance. Long human hair and pet fur can still collect around ends, bearings, or cutting mechanisms. Inspect the brush roll regularly, even when the manufacturer describes it as self-cleaning.

How the testing differs

Good Housekeeping applies faux pet hair made from fine rayon fibers to carpeting and measures how much is removed after a set number of passes. Its newer protocol also uses 15- to 18-inch strands to test anti-tangle claims. RTINGS separately evaluates pet-hair pickup, upholstery, hard floors, particle filtration, air quality during emptying, and suitability for apartments or houses. Those methods explain why the sources select different winners.

Availability also changes. RTINGS replaced the Dyson V8 with the Dyson Ball Animal 3 Extra in its main guide on January 22, 2026, added the Miele Guard S1 Electro on March 20, and replaced the Dyson V8 with the Shark PowerPro Flex Reveal Plus in its cordless guide on May 20 because of current availability. In its robot guide, RTINGS removed the discontinued eufy E20 and Wyze Robot Vacuum and replaced the eufy model with the Auto-Empty C10. Check current stock and the exact model number before relying on an older recommendation.

FAQ

What is the best pet hair remover overall?

The Dyson V15 Detect is the best all-round cordless choice in this guide because it performs very well on carpet, hard floors, upholstery, and fine debris. For larger carpeted homes, the corded Dyson Ball Animal 3 Extra is a better fit because it avoids battery limits.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Are bagged vacuums better for pet hair and allergies?

Bagged vacuums are usually better for cleaner disposal because the fur and dander remain enclosed when the bag is removed. They are not automatically better at picking up hair, however; brush-roll design and floorhead agitation still determine cleaning performance.

Can a robot vacuum replace a pet hair vacuum?

No. A good robot vacuum can reduce the amount of loose fur on floors between deeper cleanings, but it will not reliably replace a full-size vacuum for embedded carpet hair, upholstery, stairs, or pet-related messes. Brush rolls and filters still require maintenance.

How often should I clean a pet vacuum’s brush roll?

Inspect it weekly in a home with shedding pets, and sooner if suction drops, the brush stops spinning, or you hear a change in motor noise. Remove wrapped hair from the roller and its ends even when the vacuum has an anti-tangle or self-cleaning feature.

The Bottom Line

For most homes, the Dyson V15 Detect is the most versatile pet hair remover, while the Dyson Ball Animal 3 Extra makes more sense for deep carpet cleaning without battery restrictions. Choose the Kenmore Intuition Bagged or Miele Guard S1 Electro when clean dust disposal and filtration are priorities. For daily automation, add a robot vacuum—but keep a conventional vacuum for embedded fur, furniture, stairs, and the messes robots cannot safely handle.
