A good cat tree gives your cat places to climb, scratch, hide, nap, and watch the room. The best choice depends on stability, usable platform size, access between levels, scratching surfaces, and fit in your home—not height alone.
These nine picks are category winners, not a universal ranking. The comparisons draw on hands-on review findings, manufacturer specifications, and owner reports; available evidence is not laboratory safety certification or controlled long-term durability testing.

The tall, relatively narrow profile makes careful placement important. Put it on a level surface and use the supplied anti-tip strap or other appropriate wall anchoring. Customer reviews include positive experiences as well as reports of loose posts, peeling coverings, and differences between older and newer versions. These reports are not controlled durability testing.
2. Mau Ivy Modern Cat Tree: best premium design
The Mau Ivy is designed for people who want cat furniture that looks more like home furnishings than a carpet-covered tower. It uses solid wood, wicker baskets, sisal, and faux-fur cushions. The cushions are washable, and Mau sells replacement trunks, beds, cushions, and rope.
It comes in 53- and 73-inch versions, with listed capacities of 18 pounds and 20 pounds, respectively. Check that the basket and sleeping surfaces suit your cat; a weight rating does not establish that a long-bodied cat can curl up comfortably.
Assembly can be difficult, and the baskets may be too small for very large cats. For a medium-sized cat and a design-conscious home, its repairable parts are a notable advantage.
3. Mau Cento: best stylish alternative
The Mau Cento is shorter and less imposing than a traditional 70-inch tower. It measures about 23.5 by 18 by 46 inches. Its wood, rattan, sisal, and faux-fur construction gives it a finished appearance, and the cushions are machine-washable.
Forbes Vetted selected the Cento as its top pick after evaluating 17 cat trees with five feline testers for more than a month. It may suit homes where appearance and everyday usability matter equally.

It is not the pick for a cat needing very large platforms or a household seeking maximum vertical territory. Consider it for average-sized cats that prefer a moderate-height perch.
4. PAWZ Road Large Cat Tree: best for large cats
The PAWZ Road Large Cat Tree measures approximately 21.6 by 17.7 by 72.4 inches and has a manufacturer-stated 32-pound capacity. It includes two beds, two houses, several platforms, a large central hammock, and a lower scratching pad. The top-bed covers are removable.
The hammock gives a larger cat a place to rest without requiring it to use a small enclosed condo. Measure the platform and bed areas, check condo openings, and consider how much room your cat needs to turn around or stretch.
A 32-pound rating does not guarantee the tower will stay motionless when a heavy cat launches from one side. Tighten fasteners, place it on level flooring, and anchor it if it rocks or the manufacturer supplies a strap.
5. Frisco 72-in Large Base Faux Fur Cat Tree & Condo: best for multiple cats
This is the Frisco model to consider when several cats need elevated space. The large-base version is distinct from the standard Frisco 72-inch tree. Its broader footprint and multiple perches, condos, and scratching areas make it better suited to sharing.

Look at traffic flow as well as the number of beds. Separate resting points can reduce competition, especially when cats are not close companions.

- STURDY TRIANGULAR STRUCTURE DESIGN: The designer cleverly employs a stable triangular structure at 80% of the level, giving our cat tree exceptional stability. Whether they are climbing to the top or resting on the middle levels, cats can enjoy high stability, allowing them to play and relax without distractions
- ENHANCED STURDY STABILITY - The thickened and enlarged base board ensures enhanced sturdy. The unique design ensures the center of gravity is precisely centered, making it difficult for this tall cat tree tower to tip over even during movements by large cats
- OVERSIZED PADDED PLATFORM - This large cat tree for big cats features an extra-large platform (21.7"x 11.8"), enlarged by 83%, allowing even adult large cats to enjoy their rest in this spacious and cozy area comfortably
- 2 CAT CAVES, 2 Styles - Equipped with two cat condos. The large cat condo provides cats with a private resting space. The high-level condo serves as a 'lookout' tower, allowing discreet observation of the surroundings
- BONUS INDEPENDENT PET BED- Featuring a separate pet bed(17.7"x 13.4") that is not only suitable for cats but can also be used independently. it can be placed under the cat tower or in your cat's favorite spot. It is also suitable for multi-pet households, allowing other pets to enjoy its benefits
6. HOOBRO Small Cat Tree: best budget pick
The HOOBRO Small Cat Tree measures about 15.7 by 11.8 by 31.5 inches and weighs 11 pounds. Cats.com listed it at $29.99 on Amazon when checked. Its solid-wood construction and compact size may suit a kitten, a small adult cat, or a room where a full-size tower would be intrusive.
Its size is also its main limitation. It is not a sensible choice for a large cat that jumps aggressively, and its platforms are unlikely to provide enough room for several cats. Think of it as a low-cost perch and scratching station, not a substitute for a large climbing structure.

7. Amazon Basics Cat Tree Indoor Climbing Activity Tower: best for small spaces
Forbes Vetted lists this tower at 24 by 24 by 47 inches, with engineered wood, sisal, and faux fur, and a product weight of 55 pounds. It offers a compromise between a tabletop tree and a full 70-inch structure.
Measure before buying. A 24-inch square can block a doorway, radiator, cabinet, or window in a crowded room. Consider the route from the delivery entrance to its final location too.
It may work for cats that like climbing but do not require a very tall tower. It is not genuinely tiny, and moving it after assembly may be inconvenient.
8. Yaheetech Cat Litter Box Enclosure Cat Tree & Condo: best multifunctional option
The Yaheetech combines vertical cat furniture with a concealed litter-box compartment. It measures approximately 31.5 by 17.7 by 53 inches and accommodates litter pans up to 21 by 16 inches. The manufacturer-listed weight capacity is 22 pounds. The enclosure can help organize a small room while providing platforms, a condo, and scratching surfaces above.
Rank #4
- 【72-Inch Top Viewing Platform】 An oversized top platform with multiple jumping boards simulates a wild climbing environment, meeting the cat’s instinct to stretch and climb while providing a wide view and a comfortable resting area.
- 【Double Large Cat Condos】 Equipped with two widened cat condos, offering ample space and a private, uncrowded and comfortable hiding place for large cats.
- 【Thickened Base for Extra Stability】 A thickened base and heavy-duty structure ensure the cat tree remains stable and does not shake, even when multiple large cats play at the same time.
- 【Hammock & Basket】 A comfortable hammock and basket with two hanging toys provide both relaxation and fun for your cat.
- 【Quick Installation Saves Time and Effort】 Simple design with detailed instructions allows easy assembly in just a few minutes, letting your cat enjoy happy times right away.
The litter box is not included. Measure your existing pan, including its rim and any lid, rather than assuming a nominal size will fit. The entry is not reversible, so check which side must face the room.
Particleboard, faux fur, and sisal require more careful cleaning than a simple plastic litter-box cabinet. Assembly may take longer than with a conventional cat tree because the enclosure adds panels and hardware.
9. Hey Brother Cat Tree: best for senior cats or limited mobility
The Hey Brother tree stands about 35.4 inches high and measures roughly 27.6 by 19.7 inches. Its platforms are relatively close together, reducing the need for one long leap to reach the upper bed. It has a washable bed cover and includes a wall strap.

It can also work for a cat that prefers a low perch.
Do not treat it as inherently tip-proof. In Cats.com testing, a 16-pound cat could use most of the structure, but the tree nearly toppled when the cat used the side hammock. The wall mount was the practical solution; use the strap when appropriate.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How we evaluated cat trees
Recent review roundups do not use one standardized laboratory test. Cats.com tested and reviewed multiple trees, while Forbes Vetted evaluated 17 trees with five feline testers for more than a month. We considered those hands-on findings alongside specifications and owner reports, without treating any product as laboratory safety-certified.
Stability
A tree should be checked on the flooring where it will be used. A cat landing off-center can create more movement than one simply sitting on a platform. We considered base width, rocking during use, side-mounted hammocks, and wall straps or anti-tip hardware.

- Multi-level Tall Cat Tree: The design of two independent sisal scratching boards and the platform design for each layer make this cat tree have distinct layers and a reasonable structure. Even kittens and senior cats can climb it with ease.
- Large Base, More Sturdy: The spacious base(21.7''L x 17.7''W) provides excellent stability. Additionally, the included anti-tipping straps can be used to secure this cat tree to the wall. Even when adult cats or large cats climb up and down, it is not easy for the cat tree to tip over, making it much safer.
- 2 Plush Cat Caves: The two cat houses wrapped in soft plush fabric not only provide excellent concealment, which is in line with the nature of cats, but also the soft fabric makes it more comfortable for cats to rest.
- 2 Top Platforms:Cats like to climb high and look far. The two platforms of the tall cat tower at the highest position are a perfect fit for this habit of cats, allowing them to overlook the surroundings.
- More Funs from The Large Cat Tree: The comfortable hammock, the deep hanging basket, the cat scratching posts where cats can sharpen their claws at will, and the suspended fur balls all contribute to creating a warm and cozy living environment for cats.
Fit and access
Weight ratings do not tell you whether a bed or condo is comfortable. Platform length, opening diameter, hammock size, and distance between levels matter too. A long-bodied cat may outgrow a bed despite being below its stated weight limit.
Scratching surfaces
We distinguished vertical posts, horizontal boards, and angled ramps. Sisal is common, but scratching preferences vary: a cat that prefers horizontal scratching may use a flat cardboard surface or a log on its side, as Cornell Feline Health Center guidance notes.
Assembly and upkeep
We considered whether parts are clearly labeled, holes are predrilled, the supplied tool is usable, and coverings interfere with fastening. Cats.com reported that the New Cat Condos Deluxe Cat Tower arrived mostly assembled but had a top bed without predrilled holes.
Washable cushions and replaceable parts can matter over time. The Mau Ivy is notable for offering replacement trunks, beds, cushions, and rope.

Cat-tree safety and setup advice
- Use the wall strap. Anchor tall, narrow, lightweight, or hammock-heavy trees when the manufacturer provides hardware. Veterinary guidance recommends anchoring tall cat trees to help reduce injury risk.
- Check every connection after assembly. Tighten posts and bolts, then test each platform and hammock. Recheck fasteners after several days of use.
- Inspect covered edges. Look for exposed wood, rough glue, loose fabric or rope, and openings where a paw or claw could catch.
- Remove damaged toys. Dangling toys can fray or detach. Chewy says the Frisco 72-inch model’s toys are designed to release under excess pressure; do not assume other brands have this feature.
- Put it where cats want to be. A perch near a secure window, away from a noisy appliance and close to family activity, may be used more than an isolated tower.
- Keep other resources available. A tree does not replace separate scratching surfaces, hiding places, beds, food and water stations, or appropriately placed litter boxes.
How to choose the right cat tree
- For a large cat: Prioritize wide platforms, large openings, a generous hammock, and a broad base. Check the product’s capacity, but do not treat it as a fit or stability guarantee.
- For a senior cat: Choose low-to-moderate height, short transitions, stable landings, and no required long leap to the top.
- For multiple cats: Look for several resting levels and more than one route or access point. There is no universal one-tree-per-cat rule; relationships and layout matter.
- For a small apartment: Measure the base, doorways, window clearance, and walking paths. A 24-inch footprint may still be too large in a tightly furnished room.
- For a scratcher: Match surface orientation to your cat’s existing habit. A vertical post may not replace a horizontal scratcher for a cat that ignores upright surfaces.
FAQ
What is the best cat tree overall?
The Frisco 72-in Faux Fur Cat Tree & Condo is a strong overall value for many average-sized cats because it combines multiple perches, condos, scratching areas, and substantial height. Its tall, narrow shape makes careful placement and anchoring important.
Should a cat tree be anchored to the wall?
Anchor a tall or narrow tree when the manufacturer supplies a strap, or if the structure rocks during climbing. A broad base does not eliminate tipping forces from off-center jumps or hammock landings.
What is the best cat tree for a large cat?
The PAWZ Road Large Cat Tree has a listed 32-pound capacity and includes a large hammock and multiple beds. Measure its actual platforms, openings, and hammock; a weight rating does not guarantee comfortable fit.
How do I choose a cat tree for a senior cat?
Choose closely spaced platforms, low or moderate height, stable landings, and no requirement for a long leap. The Hey Brother tree fits that profile, but use its wall strap if it moves when the cat enters the side hammock.
Do all cats prefer sisal or vertical scratching posts?
No. Cats vary in scratching texture and orientation preferences. If your cat prefers horizontal scratching, try a flat cardboard surface or a log on its side, as Cornell Feline Health Center guidance suggests.
The Bottom Line
The Frisco 72-inch tree is an easy recommendation for buyers seeking many features for the money, while the Mau Ivy and Mau Cento suit design-conscious homes. Large cats need roomy platforms, not just a high weight rating; senior cats need short, stable transitions. Measure usable surfaces, assemble carefully, and anchor the tree if there is any movement.
