Their introduction offered each a new companion—but, according to reports, the animals ultimately went to separate homes.
How Ruggles and Chompers met
An account published by IHeartDogs on January 14, 2024, describes Ruggles as a Shih-Tzu puppy rescued from a puppy mill. The same report says Chompers was found alone beneath a porch when she was two days old. The shelter brought the young animals together as Ruggles began a new chapter after rescue.
Why the animals were reportedly adopted separately
Although the shelter’s original plan was reportedly to place Ruggles and Chompers together, a note attributed to YouTube and reproduced by Jagaul.com on December 21, 2023 says Chompers became too rough with Ruggles. The note also cites Ruggles’s health problems as part of the reason the shelter decided separate homes would be in both animals’ interests. It does not identify the note’s author or role, so those details should be understood as reported rather than as a named shelter official’s account.
Where they went next
The reports say Ruggles and Chompers were adopted into separate homes and were both happy and loved. IHeartDogs also reports that Ruggles later became an ambassador for Cherokee County Animal Shelter, visiting schools to teach children about shelter dogs and puppy mills. The original shelter record and video were not independently verified, so these details reflect the published accounts.
