Animal Control officer Diane Desrosiers reportedly brought ten ducklings found alone on a Southgate, Michigan, roadway to a nearby pond, where a wild duck named Stella gathered them with her own brood. That is the heartwarming outcome described in secondary accounts of the incident; the original FOX 2 report or video was not located for independent review.
How the ducklings came to the pond
A 2025 iHeartDogs retelling says Desrosiers found the ten ducklings after they became separated from their mother. She placed them in a pet carrier while deciding what to do, then took them to a pond at South Winds Golf Club in Southgate. The account identifies her as an Animal Control officer, rather than a police officer.
Stella reportedly took them in
At the pond, a wild duck named Stella had nine ducklings of her own. The retellings say she swam over to the newcomers and led them back with her brood. Pro golfer Chris Grandy, described as a witness who filmed the moment, was quoted in the iHeartDogs account as telling FOX 2 News: “They lost their mom and now they got a new mom.” He also called it “the most precious kind of thing I’ve ever witnessed” and “such a motherly thing.”
What is known about what happened next
An Animal Channel account published in 2018 says the ducklings were still with Stella and doing well a few weeks after the incident. That is a brief reported follow-up, not confirmation of their long-term fate. The available secondary accounts agree on the central sequence, but they do not independently verify every detail, and the original FOX 2 story or video was not located.
