Victor Manuel Carrion-Flores, 80, was sentenced to 20 days in jail and 24 months of probation after pleading guilty to felony aggravated animal cruelty and misdemeanor abandoning an animal to die, WFTV reported on October 6, 2026. The case involved Max, a dog found badly injured in a Kissimmee dumpster in March.
What happened to Max
On March 7, 2026, a worker taking out trash at a business at 1076 Cypress Parkway in Kissimmee heard an animal crying. Deputies found Max, described in reports as an approximately 10-year-old Jack Russell terrier mix, injured and whimpering in a dumpster. He was taken to a veterinarian and euthanized because of a severe skull fracture. A later examination confirmed blunt force trauma, according to WFTV’s reporting.
Investigators said surveillance video showed a man take the dog from a pickup truck, place him in a box, and put the box in the dumpster. Reports also said Carrion-Flores denied injuring Max and told investigators he had found the dog hurt, was too busy to seek medical care, and thought the dog would die. The reports do not establish precisely how or when Max’s injuries occurred, or independently establish who caused them.
The investigation and guilty plea
Carrion-Flores was arrested on March 8, according to WFTV’s March 9 report. On September 30, he pleaded guilty to felony aggravated animal cruelty and misdemeanor abandoning an animal to die. The reported account of his “too busy” remark came from a sheriff’s office news release reproduced by WFTV; it was not presented as a court finding.
