Its headline deck calls the charge a “bluff charge,” but the report does not identify the recording’s location or date, name the people shown, or cite an independent assessment confirming that label.
What the report says about the video
Scroll.in’s June 27, 2023, report describes a grizzly charging at tourists and credits the embedded Instagram post to Scenic Bear Viewing (@scenicbearviewing). The deck says: “Never run from a charging bear, even though your instinct is to run. This is a bluff charge.” It attributes that warning to “the guides from Alaska,” without naming a particular speaker or specifying their role.

What to know about a charging bear
Alaska Department of Fish and Game guidance distinguishes defensive encounters from non-defensive ones because the recommended response can differ. The available information about this video is not enough to determine which kind of encounter it depicts, so general safety advice should not be treated as a retrospective verdict on the people shown.

Do not run
The department advises people not to run from bears. In defensive encounters, its guidance says to stay calm, stand your ground if a bear moves toward or charges, and ready a deterrent. For a bear that persistently approaches in a non-defensive encounter, it recommends assertive behavior. Read the department’s bear-country guidance for context; the appropriate response depends on the encounter, not on a single video label.
Bear spray is a deterrent, not a guarantee
Alaska Department of Fish and Game says bear spray can be a deterrent. People who carry it should keep it accessible and know how to use it. The Scroll report does not say whether the guide or tourists had bear spray, and the footage should not be taken as evidence that anyone used it.

Why “bluff charge” needs attribution
A charge can look frightening, and the bear-country guidance notes that a charging bear may come within a few feet before running off. But that general possibility does not establish what happened in this particular encounter. Since Scroll’s page supplies no independent behavioral assessment or enough incident detail to classify the bear, describe it as a charge that the report called a bluff charge—not as a confirmed harmless display.
