Will the VOLUAS automatic feeder reliably feed your cats while you’re away? In Cats.com’s account, reviewer Annie Butler tested the VOLUAS 4L feeder with her three cats for about two weeks and reported that it dispensed each scheduled meal without a jam. That is a useful real-world report, not a guarantee across every kibble or household. The key setup task is calibrating portion size with your own food: the amount released depends on kibble size, shape, and density.
What the two-week test found
Butler’s Cats.com review describes LCD-guided setup and scheduled feeding that worked throughout her approximately two-week test. She reported no jams and said food was dispensed at every scheduled meal. Those observations apply to the feeder and food used in her test; they do not establish performance with every kibble type or independently predict what will happen in another home.

The tested unit was VOLUAS’s 4L model. VOLUAS lists its capacity as up to 16.9 cups of dry food, but that figure alone cannot tell you how many days it will last: cats’ daily portions and kibble density vary.

The feeder uses an LCD for programming, rather than requiring Wi-Fi or an app. Butler found the setup straightforward but noted that the 24-hour clock format was not obvious beforehand. She also found that the initial portion setting released very little food, so she tried different settings before choosing an amount for her cats.

- Choose the food first. Use dry kibble that flows freely through the dispenser; the food’s size and shape affect output.
- Run a test portion. Catch and measure the output using the kibble you plan to feed. VOLUAS says a portion is approximately 6–7 g on many models, but actual weight varies. Do not treat a portion count as a guaranteed weight or calorie amount.
- Adjust and repeat. Try a few settings until the measured amount suits your feeding plan, then program the schedule. Check each meal’s output before relying on it.
- Confirm the clock and schedule. The review notes a 24-hour clock format. Verify that the displayed time and programmed meals match your intended schedule.
VOLUAS says standard feeders support up to four meals per day and settings from 0–40 portions per meal. The manual PDF describes the manual-feed button as dispensing one portion (1 teaspoon/12.5 ml) without changing the regular schedule; that detail may be model-specific, so follow the manual supplied with your unit.
Food compatibility and jam risk
This is a dry-food feeder, not a wet-food solution. VOLUAS warns that wet, semi-moist, sticky, or oily food can clog the dispenser. Its FAQ recommends dry kibble around 2–10 mm that flows smoothly; large, irregular, soft, sticky, or oily pieces may not dispense consistently.
Butler reported no jams during her test, but the result should not be generalized to foods she did not test. If your chosen kibble is near the size limit or does not pour freely, test it repeatedly before depending on an unattended schedule.

Can three cats share the feeder?
Butler tested the single-bowl 4L feeder with three cats, but a shared bowl does not mean the device tracks each cat or portions separately for them. VOLUAS says its standard single-bowl feeder does not identify individual pets. A dual-bowl model is intended for two pets, though VOLUAS notes that distribution between bowls can vary slightly with kibble shape and whether the unit sits level.
A shared feeder may be a poor fit if your cats need different diets, must be fed under supervision, or compete for food. The cited product guidance does not establish that a standard single-bowl feeder can manage those situations.

Power backup and checks before leaving
VOLUAS describes USB power for normal operation and three D-cell alkaline batteries as backup on many standard models. The supplied manual specifies a DC 5V adapter/USB cable and three D-cell alkaline batteries, which are not included. Check the manual for your exact model before buying batteries or relying on backup power.
- Check the low-battery indicator before an extended absence.
- After an outage, battery replacement, or a long period without power, verify the clock and meal schedule.
- Keep the feeder indoors; the manual labels it for household indoor use and cautions against outdoor placement or rain exposure. It suggests a cord conduit if you need to protect the power cord.
Cleaning and safe handling
Butler says the food tank, food tray, and lid can be hand-washed after removing the desiccant bag from the lid; these parts are not dishwasher-safe. VOLUAS advises against submerging the electronic base and says removable parts must be completely dry before food is added. Components can differ by model, so use the instructions for your specific feeder.

The VOLUAS user guide warns: “DO NOT put your fingers into the machine at any time.” It also states: “Do not add semi-dry or wet pet food, this product can only use dry pet food.”
