A blue point Siamese is a Siamese color variety, not a separate breed. It has a pale bluish-white body, deep blue-gray points on the face, ears, legs and tail, slate-colored nose leather and paw pads, and vivid blue eyes under the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) standard. The coat can help you describe a cat, but pointed coloring by itself does not prove pedigree.
What is a blue point Siamese cat?
“Point” refers to the darker coloring on a cat’s cooler body extremities: the mask on the face, ears, legs and tail. On a blue point, those areas are deep blue against a bluish-white body. CFA describes the body as “bluish white, cold in tone,” with shading that gradually becomes white on the stomach and chest. Its standard also specifies slate-colored nose leather and paw pads and deep, vivid blue eyes. CFA’s Siamese standard sets out these details.

For a useful picture, look for one that shows the face, ears, legs and tail as well as the pale body. A photo can illustrate blue-point coloration, but it cannot establish that the cat has Siamese pedigree. Pointed coloring appears in cats outside pedigreed Siamese, and TICA notes that people often mistake all pointed cats for Siamese.

Compare the color of the points and the body tone. In CFA’s standard, blue points are deep blue against a bluish-white body. Seal points are deep seal brown against a pale fawn-to-cream body. These descriptions identify coat-color varieties, not different personalities.

| Variety in CFA’s standard | Point color | Body color |
|---|---|---|
| Blue point | Deep blue | Bluish white, cold in tone |
| Seal point | Deep seal brown | Pale fawn to cream |
These descriptions come from CFA’s Siamese standard. Registry acceptance is a separate question: a cat’s appearance alone does not show how a particular registry would classify or register it.
Do registries recognize the same Siamese colors?
No. Color acceptance depends on the registry, so check the rules of the organization relevant to a show or pedigree record rather than assuming there is one universal list. CFA lists four Siamese colors: seal, chocolate, blue and lilac. TICA says it accepts all colors and patterns in the pointed category for show. See CFA’s discussion of pointed cats and TICA’s explanation of cat colors.

What is a Siamese cat’s temperament like?
TICA describes Siamese cats as social and people-oriented, with a tendency to thrive in human company. That is a breed tendency, not a guarantee about an individual cat; a particular cat’s behavior depends on the individual as well as its home and experiences. A Siamese may suit a household prepared to give it regular interaction and companionship. TICA’s breed profile gives approximate adult weights of 5–8 pounds for females and 8–12 pounds for males. TICA’s Siamese profile also says life expectancy is 10 or more years, with some Siamese known to reach more than 20 years; those are breed-profile figures, not a lifespan promise for any one cat.

Coat care
The short coat needs little routine care. TICA recommends weekly combing with a stainless steel comb, and VCA likewise says weekly combing is ample. The guidance is about the Siamese coat generally, not a special grooming requirement for the blue-point color variety. See TICA’s breed profile and VCA’s Siamese overview.

TICA describes the breed as generally healthy while noting a tendency toward anesthesia sensitivity and possible susceptibility to amyloidosis. These are breed-level cautions, not diagnoses or predictions for an individual cat. Tell your veterinarian that your cat is Siamese or believed to be Siamese, and ask whether its medical history changes care or treatment decisions. TICA’s profile does not establish that every Siamese will experience either issue. Read TICA’s Siamese health notes.
