At Best Friends Animal Sanctuary’s Parrot Garden, “happy hour” is a daily treat-choice routine: a caregiver offers each parrot two options and lets the bird decide. The feature describes it as a small way to add choice and variety to birds’ day—not as a veterinary feeding plan or a measured welfare intervention.
How the parrots’ happy hour works
Caregiver Jessica Hagedorn walks around the Parrot Garden with two bowls of treats. Each bird can choose which option to eat. The birds still receive their regular food and water; happy hour is an additional routine.

What household parrot owners should take from the story
The useful idea is the opportunity for a bird to make a choice within its care routine. The story does not establish that its examples—Nutri-Berries, birdie cookies, almonds, or apple slices—are suitable for every parrot, nor does it give portions or a safe way to adapt the activity at home. Ask an avian veterinarian or another qualified bird-care professional which treats are appropriate for your individual bird before offering them.
