What is Bravecto Quantum used for in dogs?
Bravecto Quantum is an extended-release suspension containing fluralaner, an isoxazoline. It is given by subcutaneous injection by, or on the order of, a licensed veterinarian. It is not an at-home chew or topical product. The constituted suspension is dosed by body weight, and its handling and administration are veterinary procedures. FDA describes why veterinary prescribing and administration are required; the current U.S. label provides the full directions.

Flea and tick coverage depends on the species
The current U.S. label covers flea infestations for 12 months in dogs and puppies at least six months old. It lists five tick species for 12 months: black-legged tick (Ixodes scapularis), American dog tick (Dermacentor variabilis), brown dog tick (Rhipicephalus sanguineus), Asian longhorned tick (Haemaphysalis longicornis), and Gulf Coast tick (Amblyomma maculatum). Lone star tick (Amblyomma americanum) coverage is eight months, not 12.

The listed tick indications changed after the original approval. FDA approved Quantum on July 10, 2025, initially for three tick species; a March 16, 2026 supplemental approval added Asian longhorned and Gulf Coast ticks to the 12-month indications. See the original FDA approval summary and the supplemental approval summary. The current label, rather than older summaries, is the best reference for present indications.
How often is it given?
The label directs one subcutaneous dose every 12 months, except that potential exposure to lone star ticks may call for dosing every eight months. The licensed veterinarian chooses the interval according to the tick species the dog is likely to encounter. It is therefore inaccurate to describe Quantum as providing a full year of coverage against every tick listed on the label.

What does the label say about flea allergy dermatitis?
The label reports that dogs showing signs of flea allergy dermatitis improved in erythema, alopecia, papules, scales, crusts, and excoriation as a direct result of eliminating flea infestations. That finding makes flea control relevant to a dog whose skin signs are associated with fleas.
It does not show that Quantum treats every kind of itch, allergy, dermatitis, or skin disease. Persistent or worsening signs need veterinary assessment to identify the cause and decide on appropriate care; the label observation is not a diagnosis.

Is Bravecto Quantum FDA-approved for dogs?
Yes. FDA approved Bravecto Quantum for dogs and puppies at least six months old on July 10, 2025. The agency’s approval announcement says it must be prescribed by a licensed veterinarian because professional expertise is needed to administer the injection, monitor for and respond to adverse reactions, advise about breeding dogs, and select an appropriate eight- or 12-month interval based on likely tick exposure.
The label says safety and effectiveness have not been evaluated in dogs younger than six months. It also says safety has not been evaluated in breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs; owners of dogs in those groups should discuss the individual situation with their veterinarian rather than assume the findings apply.

What are the side effects and safety concerns?
Neurologic reactions warrant a conversation before treatment
Fluralaner belongs to the isoxazoline class. FDA says these products are commonly used and safe for most dogs and cats, while noting an association with neurologic adverse reactions in some animals, including muscle tremors, ataxia, and seizures. FDA advises owners to consult a veterinarian about whether an isoxazoline is appropriate for their pet.
The Quantum label advises caution for dogs with a history of seizures or neurologic disorders. It also notes that seizures have been reported in dogs receiving isoxazoline drugs even when they had no prior seizure history. Tell the veterinarian about any seizure history or neurologic condition before deciding on treatment. The label also reports hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis, which require immediate treatment.

Reactions observed in the U.S. field study
In the controlled U.S. field study described in the label, 225 dogs received Quantum and 96 received an oral active control during a 455-day study. The following observations were reported among Quantum-treated dogs:

These percentages describe observations in that study population and design, not a prediction of what will happen to an individual dog or a universal incidence rate. The label’s adverse-reaction section gives the study context and additional prescribing details.
How effective is it against fleas?
The FDA’s 2025 approval summary reported that Quantum was over 99% effective at treating and preventing flea infestations for 365 days in the supporting field study. The current label, revised August 3, 2026, summarizes a 455-day U.S. field study as showing at least 99.2% effectiveness against fleas for 12 months. These are study results, not guarantees for every dog or evidence that all tick species receive 12 months of coverage.
What should you discuss with the veterinarian?
- Which tick species are likely where your dog lives, travels, or spends time, especially whether lone star ticks are a concern and an eight-month interval may be appropriate.
- Any history of seizures, tremors, coordination problems, or other neurologic disorders, along with prior reactions to medications.
- Whether your dog is younger than six months, breeding, pregnant, or lactating, since the label does not establish safety and effectiveness for these circumstances.
- Whether the dog’s skin signs could be flea-associated or need evaluation for another cause.
- How the injection fits the dog’s veterinary care and the timing of follow-up treatment.
Other fluralaner formulations, such as previously approved chewable tablets and topical solutions, are separate dosage forms—not components of Quantum. Any discussion of alternatives should account for formulation, dosing schedule, species and duration of coverage, minimum labeled age, administration requirements, precautions, geography, and the dog’s medical history rather than assume one option is superior.
