Yes—an article published by Interesting Engineering reported that Santosh Lohar bit a snake twice after it bit him while he was sleeping. The account says the snake died and Lohar received hospital care overnight, but it does not identify the snake species or independently confirm the incident.
What the report says happened
Interesting Engineering published its account on July 6, 2024, identifying Lohar as a 35-year-old laborer from Panduka in Latehar district, Jharkhand, India. According to that report, a snake bit him while he slept. Lohar then used a metal rod to impale the snake and bit it twice. Why did he bite the snake?
The article attributes Lohar’s actions to a belief he described as local: “In my village, there’s a belief that if a snake bites you, you must bite it back twice to neutralize the venom,” he said, according to the report, which attributes the account to Newsweek. That is an explanation for his reported behavior, not evidence that biting a snake treats a bite or neutralizes venom. The report does not establish how widely the belief is held.
