In Cats.com’s 2025 review, Ever Clean’s three tested clay litters scored 4.25 to 4.5 out of 5. The clearest shared strength was firm clumping; the main trade-offs were weight and formula-dependent dust, tracking, and scent. Those are observations from a few weeks of testing with several cats—not a guarantee that every cat or household will get the same results.
What did the Ever Clean litter review test?
Cats.com says its team purchased three Ever Clean formulas and tested them with several cats for a few weeks. The review was authored by Kate Barrington and last updated September 23, 2025. The team said it did not receive the products in exchange for a favorable review. Its scores and observations are editorial findings, not independent scientific measurements.

Which Ever Clean formula may suit your household?
For a fragrance-free preference
The Extra Strength Unscented and Everfresh Activated Charcoal formulas were both described as unscented. The review reported odor control for Extra Strength and tight, scoopable clumps for Everfresh. Neither was dust-free in the test: Extra Strength had sticky dust and tracking, while Everfresh also produced sticky dust.
For firm clumps and easier scooping
Firm clumping was the most consistent positive observation across the three tested formulas. Everfresh’s clumps reportedly held together while scooping; Extra Strength formed hard, tight clumps, and Multi-Cat also formed hard clumps. If your priority is a clean scoop, those findings are relevant, but they do not establish performance in every litter box or with every cat.
For a multi-cat home
The Multi-Cat formula was the only one in this comparison with a light paw-activated fragrance. Cats.com reported hard clumps and low tracking, but also some dust and the possibility of daily topping-off as clumps remove litter. If you or your cats are sensitive to fragrance, the two unscented tested formulas are a closer fit to that preference.
Rank #2
- Age Range Description: All Life Stages
For lighter lifting
All three products in the comparison are clay, which the review identifies as heavy to handle. It mentions a lightweight unscented formula elsewhere in the brand’s lineup, but that formula was not among the three products tested here. Treat the lineup description as the review’s snapshot, not confirmation of current product availability.
What should you know about dust, tracking, and odor?
Dust and tracking were not the same across formulas, and neither was completely absent in the review’s observations. Extra Strength was described as low-dust, but its fine granules tracked and its dust could be sticky. Everfresh’s larger granules are intended to reduce tracking, yet the test still noted sticky dust. Multi-Cat had low tracking in the test but was somewhat dusty.
The review reported odor control for Extra Strength and Multi-Cat, and described Everfresh as an unscented option with activated charcoal and tight clumps. These are the reviewer’s results and descriptions; they do not promise odor control in a particular home, especially where litter-box maintenance, ventilation, or the number of cats differs.
Rank #3
- Fragrance-free
- Maximum Clumping Power
- Grabs & Holds Odor
Are the review’s prices and reader comments current evidence?
The per-pound amounts in the comparison are the figures Cats.com listed in its 2025 review. They are not current price checks. Compare the package price and weight at the retailer you use, then calculate the present cost per pound; package sizes and availability can vary.

What is the practical verdict?
The Cats.com test makes Ever Clean worth considering if firm clumping is high on your list, with two tested unscented choices and one lightly scented multi-cat formula. Choose by the trade-off you are most willing to accept: sticky dust or tracking, fragrance, possible daily replenishment, or the weight of clay litter. The scores summarize one review’s short test with several cats; your cat’s acceptance and your own tolerance for dust and handling are the deciding factors.
