Firefighters rescued two dogs from a laundry fire at an Innaloo unit complex on 13 March 2023. A contemporaneous report said the fire was believed to have started accidentally through combustion from a clothes dryer; it did not publish a final investigation finding confirming the cause.

What happened in the Innaloo fire?

Firefighters were called at about 10:30 p.m. on Monday, 13 March 2023, to a unit complex on Odin Road in Innaloo, Perth. The fire was in a downstairs laundry. PerthNow reported that all occupants were accounted for and firefighters rescued two dogs from the burning room. The dogs received oxygen therapy and were taken to a veterinarian. PerthNow’s 14 March 2023 report did not name an investigator or provide technical findings or a final investigation report.

Was a clothes dryer confirmed as the cause?

No. PerthNow described the fire as accidental and said it was believed to have been sparked by combustion from a clothes dryer. That is a reported suspected cause, not a confirmed forensic conclusion. The incident account does not establish the precise mechanism or identify a final determination by investigators.

  • Let the cool-down cycle finish, and switch the dryer off before leaving home. DFES puts it plainly: “Always turn the dryer off before leaving the house.”
  • If the dryer takes longer than usual, makes unusual sounds or struggles to rotate, stop using it and contact a licensed electrical contractor.

A lint brush may help with cleaning where appropriate, but DFES does not endorse a particular tool or brand. It is not a replacement for the manufacturer’s instructions or qualified repair.
