The iPrimio XL stainless steel litter box is worth considering if you want a metal pan with high sides, but its detachable enclosure, raised front entry and weight when full can be drawbacks. A Cats.com reviewer found it easy to clean in their household; the enclosure’s unsecured fit and possible seam leaks are the main practical cautions.
What the iPrimio XL includes and how large it is
The product reviewed by Cats.com has a stainless steel pan and a separate plastic enclosure that rests on top. The reviewer reported pan dimensions of 15.5 inches wide by 23.5 inches long by 6 inches tall. The enclosure adds about 6 inches, bringing the wall height to roughly 12 inches. Those figures come from the review updated September 28, 2025, not an official product specification page.

Because the enclosure makes the front the practical entrance, check both the pan footprint and the access height against your cat’s needs and the space available. Product revisions have included an earlier Teflon-coated version and a newer enclosure version, so confirm the exact configuration, coating and included parts on the listing before buying.

The taller walls may help with litter scatter and high spraying. However, the enclosure does not snap or lock onto the pan. It can shift while the box is being carried, and the join between enclosure and pan may allow urine to escape if a cat urinates against that seam. Customer feedback quoted by Cats.com included complaints about the seam, so this is a meaningful concern for cats that favor the sides of the box.

Consider where your cat tends to dig and urinate. The enclosure may suit a cat that sprays high, but it is less reassuring if your cat regularly urinates along the edge or you need to move the box while it is assembled.
Cleaning, odor and durability
In its review, Cats.com said the slick steel surface made wet litter less likely to stick and was easy to clean. The reviewer observed no odor accumulation during extended use in their household. These are that reviewer’s observations, not a guarantee for every litter, cleaning routine or home. The review reported use with clay litter, pine pellets and corn litter.

The reviewer described the steel as resistant to sticking, stains and rust, but not scratch-proof. A plastic scoop may reduce the risk of scratching compared with a metal one; a scoop is not described as included. For quick cleanup, the Cats.com review says, “A damp cloth is all you need for quick cleanup to remove dust and lingering residue.” Treat that as the reviewer’s advice, not manufacturer care instructions. Customer feedback quoted in the review also included an instance of rust, so the reported resistance should not be read as a promise that rust cannot occur.
Entry height, weight and moving the box
The six-inch-tall pan and front opening may be difficult for cats with limited mobility. The Cats.com reviewer said their senior cats managed the entry, but that experience does not establish that the height will work for every older cat. If your cat has trouble stepping over a raised edge, check the entry carefully before choosing this design.

The reviewer found the pan manageable when empty but heavy once filled with litter. There are no handles, and the enclosure is unsecured, which can make moving the assembled box awkward. If you routinely carry a litter box to clean it, factor in the weight of the litter and the extra care needed to keep the enclosure in place.

The Cats.com writer said they ordered the then-current model and tested it for several weeks with three cats, in addition to having more than a year of prior experience with earlier iPrimio boxes. Their results are useful as one household’s experience, not a controlled comparison or a prediction for every cat.

Cats.com reported that Amazon showed more than 10,000 ratings averaging 4.6 out of 5 as of March 2025. Chewy’s product-review page displayed 316 ratings averaging 4.5 out of 5 when accessed October 7, 2026. Ratings and counts change, and these snapshots do not establish how the box will perform in a particular home.
