Her story continues in the official archive—but she, Shadow, Sunny, and Gizmo are not a family you can currently watch together live. Jackie, the bald eagle who helped turn Friends of Big Bear Valley’s livestream into a global wildlife-watching habit, died on August 10, 2026, after more than three weeks of intensive veterinary care. That means Jackie, Shadow, Sunny, and Gizmo should not be described as a family you can currently watch together live. The official Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV) cameras and archive remain important resources—but they are only one part of a much larger network of eagle cams.

- A close nest camera, focused on the nest and its immediate surroundings.
- A wide habitat camera, installed in 2021, which shows more of the surrounding area. FOBBV’s first nest camera was installed in 2015.
The wide view and the close view do not guarantee an eagle sighting. Wildlife may be out of frame, inactive, concealed by weather or vegetation, or absent because of the season. FOBBV also maintains an official recap report compiled by observers who monitor the livestreams around the clock, making it useful when you miss an important event or want context for archived footage.

Use FOBBV’s own livestream, archive, and recap pages rather than reposted clips or unofficial cam directories. The organization describes the stream as a free educational resource, but its media policy restricts using the livestream for commercial promotion, page monetization, or soliciting donations to other organizations without appropriate permission. In other words, watching and sharing the official resource is not the same as having permission to reuse its footage commercially.
Three other eagle cams worth watching
1. Decorah Eagles: a long-running Iowa nest cam
The Decorah Eagles stream is presented through Explore.org in partnership with the Raptor Resource Project. The nest is near a trout hatchery in Decorah, Iowa, and the official listing describes the feed as available all day and all night.
Decorah is a particularly good choice for viewers who want more than a single webcam. The Raptor Resource Project manages a broader bird-camera program and uses its streams for conservation and education. Its network gives viewers a way to compare eagle behavior, nesting conditions, and seasonal activity across more than one location.
Look for the Decorah Eagles live cam through Explore.org or the Raptor Resource Project’s official bird-cam resources. An empty nest is normal; even an active pair may spend much of the day away from the camera.
2. Berry College Eagles: a campus nest in Georgia
Berry College in Mount Berry, Georgia, offers official views of its bald eagle nest and the approach to it. The pair first appeared on the college’s main campus in spring 2012, giving this cam a setting that contrasts with the more wilderness-oriented Big Bear and Decorah feeds.

Do not assume that a quiet screen means something is wrong, or that the presence of a named pair guarantees eggs, chicks, or adults will be on camera at a particular time. The Northeast Florida Eagle Cam is best treated as a window into a changing habitat rather than a scheduled animal appearance.
What you may—or may not—see on an eagle livestream
Live cams are observational, not on-demand animal shows. A realistic viewing session may include:
- an empty nest while an adult hunts or perches elsewhere;
- long periods of stillness, especially during resting or incubating behavior;
- wind, rain, snow, fog, darkness, or glare that obscures the view;
- seasonal gaps between nesting activity;
- an eagle appearing suddenly and leaving before you can take a screenshot; or
- archived highlights that are easier to find through an operator’s recap or activity log than by watching continuously.
If you want the best chance of seeing activity, check at different times rather than judging a cam from one visit. Follow the operator’s updates for information about illness, weather, camera maintenance, or changes in the nest. Avoid treating unofficial clips as current: a popular video may show behavior from a previous season or even a different bird.

FOBBV has offered a 2026 wall calendar featuring Jackie, Shadow, Sunny, Gizmo, and other wildlife recorded by its cameras, but that official item was out of stock when researched. A generic Amazon search should not be mistaken for an authorized FOBBV listing, so check the seller and product details before buying.
Choose official sources and respect the operators
The most reliable way to follow these birds is to use the pages maintained by the organizations running the cameras: FOBBV for Big Bear, the Raptor Resource Project and Explore.org for Decorah, Berry College for its Georgia nest, and the American Eagle Foundation for Northeast Florida. Official sources provide the latest context when a camera is offline, a nest is empty, or a bird’s status changes.
They also explain how footage and images may be used. That matters especially for the Big Bear stream, whose educational purpose does not automatically grant permission for commercial reposting or monetization. Watch respectfully, credit the operators when appropriate, and remember that the value of an eagle cam is not just the occasional dramatic moment—it is the long-term record of wild birds living on their own schedule.

What other eagle cams can I watch?
Yes, but an eagle may not be visible when you visit. The Decorah Eagles cam in Iowa, Berry College’s cams in Georgia, and the Northeast Florida Eagle Cam are all additional official destinations. Wildlife activity varies by season, time of day, weather, and the birds’ location.
What does the Big Bear eagle cam show now?
FOBBV’s official cameras include a close nest view and a wide habitat view. The organization also maintains a recap report prepared by observers who monitor the livestreams around the clock.
Why is there sometimes no eagle on the livestream?
Not necessarily. A live wildlife camera may show an empty nest, weather, darkness, or a bird outside the frame. The absence of an eagle on screen does not by itself indicate a problem.
The Bottom Line
Jackie’s death changed the Big Bear story, but it did not end live eagle watching. The official Big Bear archive and habitat feed remain available, while Decorah, Berry College, and Northeast Florida offer additional regional views.
