Beach closures and reopening were historical
After the bite, authorities closed beaches between the DN48 Sandy Cape BEN sign and the DN122 North Head BEN sign. Following patrols on 28 February that reported no further sightings, the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) and the Shire of Dandaragan reopened the beaches. DPIRD continued to recommend extra caution in the Jurien Bay area. Those actions describe the response in February 2024; they do not indicate current beach conditions.

For a present-day visit, use the official SharkSmart Shark Activity page for alerts and sighting information, and follow local beach closures and authority advice before entering the water. Shark activity and alerts can change, so a report from 2024 is not a substitute for checking current conditions.
SharkSmart says sightings can be reported to Water Police on 9442 8600. Its official website also provides safety guidance and information about its app.
