Life360 Pet GPS is a $49.99 tracker—not a $50 complete tracking system. Real-time tracking requires a Life360 Gold or Platinum membership, so the meaningful comparison with Fi is total first-year cost, attachment fit, battery behavior, and the app ecosystem—not the hardware price alone.
Short answer: Life360 Pet GPS is not a $50 replacement for Fi. The tracker itself is listed at $49.99, but Life360 says real-time pet tracking requires a Gold or Platinum membership. Using the published annual-equivalent prices, one Life360 tracker costs about $199.87 for the first year with Gold or $299.95 with Platinum, before taxes and any applicable activation fees. Fi Mini’s published purchase options bundle the device and membership: $99 for six months, $189 for one year, or $339 for two years.

Life360 makes the most sense for households already using its family-location app, especially if Circle sharing and the Pet Finder Network are valuable. Fi is the cleaner comparison for someone who wants a pet-tracking subscription and device sold together. Neither service should be chosen on hardware price alone.
Life360 Pet GPS: what the $49.99 price includes
Life360’s Pet GPS is a small cellular tracker that works inside the Life360 app. The listed hardware price is $49.99, but that amount does not provide fully featured, subscription-free live tracking. Life360 states that Gold or Platinum membership is required for real-time tracking and the related paid pet-safety features.

The device weighs approximately 28 grams and measures about 37 mm × 50 mm × 15 mm. Life360 lists an IP68 waterproof rating and three color options: Black, Navy Blaze, and Pink Punch. Its attachment is designed to fit most standard collars, according to Life360’s launch materials.
Connectivity switches among cellular, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. That design is intended to balance location updates and battery life, but performance and runtime can vary substantially with signal strength, temperature, update frequency, LED use, Escaped Pet Mode, and how long the tracker remains outside a designated Power Saving Zone.

What Life360 costs in the first year
Life360’s current membership page lists Gold at $12.49 per month with an annual commitment and Platinum at $20.83 per month with an annual commitment. Multiplying those annual-equivalent figures by 12 gives:
- Gold: $149.88 for the membership equivalent, plus $49.99 hardware = approximately $199.87 before tax.
- Platinum: $249.96 for the membership equivalent, plus $49.99 hardware = approximately $299.95 before tax.
The membership also includes Life360’s broader family-safety services. Platinum adds benefits such as higher towing limits, stolen-funds reimbursement, and travel or disaster-response benefits. Those extras may be valuable to an existing Life360 household, but they should not be treated as evidence that Platinum provides better pet location accuracy.
Life360’s launch announcement also described a temporary $3.60 introductory offer and a waived activation fee for the first device added to a Circle, with a $79.99 activation fee for each additional device. Those were launch terms and should be considered historical unless the current checkout flow confirms them. Do not use them to calculate today’s ownership cost without verification.
How Life360’s pet features work
The appeal of Life360 Pet GPS is its connection to the existing Life360 ecosystem. A household can use the same app for family members, designated places, and the pet tracker rather than managing a separate pet-location service.
- Pet geofences: Designate places and receive an alert when the pet leaves.
- Escape response: Activate Escaped Pet Mode when a pet gets out.
- Finding aids: Use the tracker’s flashing LED or audible ring to help locate it nearby.
- Circle coordination: Notify people in the household’s Life360 Circle.
- Lost-pet outreach: Issue a Lost Pet Alert through the Pet Finder Network.
This integration is an ecosystem advantage, not proof of superior GPS accuracy. The available research does not include an independent accuracy or recovery-rate test comparing Life360 with Fi.
Battery life: 14 days is not the same as six months of live tracking
Life360 publishes battery life of up to 14 days under its stated conditions. It also advertises up to six months in Reserve Mode. The distinction is important: Reserve Mode is Bluetooth-only and provides occasional updates when the tracker connects to a nearby phone. It is not six months of normal, continuously available cellular GPS tracking.
In ordinary use, battery life may be shortened by frequent location updates, weak cellular signal, cold or hot temperatures, extensive time outside a Power Saving Zone, Escaped Pet Mode, and use of the LED. A pet that frequently escapes or spends much of the day in challenging coverage may therefore require more frequent charging than the headline claim suggests.
Rank #2
- REAL-TIME GPS TRACKING WITH UNLIMITED RANGE: Track your dog with live location updates every 2–3 seconds. Unlike others that update once a minute, Tractive lets you follow every step with no distance limits, anywhere in the world.
- VITAL SIGNS MONITORING: The Tractive smart tracker monitors changes in your dog’s heart and respiratory rates, helping detect potential issues before they become visible.
- HEALTH & BARKING ALERTS: The tracker learns your dog’s normal behavior and detects changes. If it notices unusual sleep, activity, or barking patterns, you’ll receive an alert so you can take action early.
- ESCAPE ALERTS & LOCATION HISTORY: Create custom virtual fences around your yard, dog park, or neighborhood. Get instant alerts if your dog leaves and review location history to retrace their steps.
- LONG-LASTING BATTERY, LIGHTWEIGHT & WATERPROOF: Tough yet light enough for any dog over 8 pounds. Fully waterproof, with up to 14 days’ battery life. Now featuring a brighter LED and louder sound for easier tracking.
There is no defensible battery winner in this comparison based on the available evidence. Fi and Life360 should not be ranked by battery life unless both are tested under identical conditions, with the same update behavior, network environment, temperature, and alert settings.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhere Fi Mini fits
Fi’s published Fi Mini purchase structure is different. The listed prices include both the device and the selected Fi membership: $99 for six months, $189 for one year, or $339 for two years. That makes the $189 one-year Fi option a more meaningful first-year comparison than Life360’s $49.99 hardware price.
Fi Mini can attach using a strap or soft case to a collar or harness within Fi’s documented width ranges. This may be a better fit for a pet that normally wears a harness, or for an owner who wants a case-based attachment rather than Life360’s universal collar attachment. Before ordering, measure the collar or harness and confirm that the pet can comfortably carry the device.
Fi also describes a 30-day trial program in the United States and Canada for Fi Series 3+ or Fi Mini. The published trial terms say customers pay a $12 shipping fee plus applicable tax, and that the trial automatically converts to a one-year prepaid plan at $189 plus tax unless canceled. Trial, cancellation, and return terms are policy-sensitive, so read the current terms before starting one.
Fi’s published structure is easier to understand at checkout because the membership is presented with the device. However, readers should still check what happens at renewal, whether the selected product is Fi Mini or Fi Series 3+, and how additional pets are priced. The available information does not justify saying Fi is categorically more accurate, more reliable, or longer-lasting than Life360.
Which tracker is better for different households?
Choose Life360 Pet GPS if you already use Life360
Life360 is the natural shortlist choice when your household already pays for Gold or Platinum and wants the pet to appear alongside family members and places in the same app. In that situation, the marginal hardware cost may feel more attractive, although you still need to confirm that your existing membership tier supports the desired pet features and whether adding another device creates an activation charge.
It is also worth considering if you want Life360 Circle notifications, the Pet Finder Network, or an attachment intended for a standard collar. The low hardware price is useful as an entry point, but it should not be mistaken for the total cost of live tracking.
Choose Fi Mini if you prefer an all-in-one purchase path
Fi is a better fit for shoppers who want the device and service packaged together, prefer Fi’s app and collar ecosystem, or need a documented harness-compatible attachment option. The one-year $189 price is close to—but not identical with—the estimated first-year Gold Life360 total once Life360 hardware is included.
Fi may also be simpler for someone who does not use Life360 for family location sharing. That is a convenience and product-fit judgment, not a claim that Fi will locate a pet more accurately in every environment.

Neither Life360 nor Fi is a subscription-free live GPS solution. Cellular trackers need a connectivity service to transmit locations beyond the range of a nearby phone or Wi-Fi network. If recurring fees are unacceptable, a Bluetooth tag may be worth considering for nearby finding, but it is not an equivalent substitute for real-time cellular GPS and can have very different range and recovery behavior.

Tractive is another GPS option
Tractive GPS Dog Tracker is a relevant alternative for shoppers who want to look beyond the Life360-versus-Fi choice. Tractive’s published product information describes live GPS tracking, virtual fences, family sharing, location history, GPS-data export, and health-monitoring features. Its Basic plan starts at $9 per month when billed annually, although prices and terms vary by plan.
Tractive also requires a subscription because its tracker uses an integrated SIM and mobile networks. “Worldwide coverage” means coverage where supported cellular networks are available; it is not a guarantee of service in every remote location or country. Compare coverage for the places your pet actually visits, not just the plan’s broad geographic wording.
Buying checklist before you order
- Calculate the hardware price plus the first year of service, not hardware alone.
- Confirm whether billing is monthly, annually committed, or prepaid.
- Check renewal pricing, cancellation rules, taxes, and activation fees.
- Verify that the tracker’s weight and attachment fit your pet’s collar or harness.
- Check cellular coverage in your home, neighborhood, travel destinations, and likely escape areas.
- Do not treat Reserve Mode as normal live GPS tracking.
- Ask whether the pet’s escape behavior will trigger frequent alerts and faster battery drain.
- Verify the exact model, colors, dimensions, IP rating, and current availability at publication.
- If purchasing through a retailer, confirm the current listing, return policy, and whether the service plan is included.
Bottom line
Life360 Pet GPS is a $49.99 tracker with a required Life360 membership—not a $50 complete tracking system. At the published annual-equivalent rates, the first-year total is roughly $199.87 with Gold or $299.95 with Platinum, before taxes and possible fees. Fi Mini’s published $189 one-year option includes the device and membership, making it the more direct first-year price comparison.
Buy Life360 when its Circle, family-location app, geofences, and Pet Finder Network fit a household already using the service. Choose Fi when you prefer its combined device-and-membership purchase path or need its documented collar and harness attachment options. Consider Tractive if its live-tracking, family-sharing, location-history, and health features are a closer match. In every case, verify current pricing, coverage, attachment fit, and renewal terms before checkout.
Prices, introductory offers, activation policies, product availability, and subscription terms can change. This comparison uses published manufacturer information and does not represent independent GPS-accuracy or battery testing.
