How to choose a hotel for your pet
Start with the requirements that could rule out a property, then compare fees and location. A hotel’s general “pet-friendly” label does not confirm that your animal qualifies or that an eligible room is available.
- Check species and pet count. Ask whether the hotel accepts your animal and how many pets may stay in one room. Some policies specify dogs only; others report cats or pets more generally.
- Match weight rules exactly. Check whether a limit applies to each dog or to the combined weight of multiple dogs. If your pet is near the threshold, ask the hotel to confirm eligibility before booking.
- Calculate the full fee. Establish whether the charge is per night, per pet, per stay, or capped, and ask whether taxes or other charges apply. Longer stays can make these fee structures differ substantially.
- Confirm room inventory and advance notice. Some properties reserve only a limited number of pet-friendly rooms; Andaz asks for at least three days’ notice. Request the appropriate room for your dates rather than relying on a general hotel listing.
- Ask about supervision and shared spaces. Confirm whether a pet can be left in the room alone and where it may go on the property. Rules for restaurants, pools, and other shared areas can affect your plans.
