Most adult Shiloh Shepherds stand about 26–32 inches at the withers and remain physically developing until roughly three years old. The International Shiloh Shepherd Dog Club (ISSDC) standard lists 28–32 inches for males and 26–30 inches for females at 36 months. Published weight figures vary by registry: one registry describes typical males at 100–120 pounds and females at 75–100 pounds, while another sets heavier minimums and ideals. Those numbers are reference points, not a prescription to make every dog as heavy as possible.
How big is a full-grown Shiloh Shepherd?
Measure height from the floor to the top of the withers—the ridge above the shoulder blades—not to the top of the head. Using that method, the ISSDC’s 2008 standard evaluates mature dogs at 36 months:

The TSSR figures are an honest typical range, not a maximum or a guarantee. Individual dogs can fall outside them because the breed is still under development and breeding goals differ among registries and lines. The ISSDC explicitly warns that “structural perfection should never be sacrificed for height.”

There is no single, universally accepted adult-weight number for the breed. The ISSDC standard says, “Weight of a Shiloh Shepherd is what represents optimal condition for the individual dog/bitch.” In other words, a dog’s frame, muscle, age, sex and body condition matter more than reaching a published figure.

These categories are not interchangeable. A “minimum,” “typical” range and “ideal” range answer different questions, and a number without its registry, sex, maturity point and body-condition assumptions can be misleading. A lean, well-muscled Shiloh may be healthy below a registry ideal, while a heavier dog can be overweight.
When does a Shiloh Shepherd stop growing?
Shiloh Shepherds are giant-type dogs with a long development period. TSSR says bones and muscles continue developing until about three years of age, and the ISSDC evaluates mature height at 36 months. A young adult may therefore look tall before the chest, frame and musculature are fully finished.

There is no validated, authoritative month-by-month height-and-weight chart in these standards. Do not use a made-up growth formula to predict an individual puppy’s final size. Parent size and registry lineage provide context, but one puppy measurement cannot determine adult stature with certainty.

Track the trend instead of chasing a target
- Record body weight on a consistent scale at regular veterinary or home check-ins.
- Measure height at the withers, using the same technique each time.
- Keep the dog lean and well conditioned; ask your veterinarian to assess body condition, gait and musculoskeletal development.
- Bring the growth record to routine examinations so an abrupt slowdown, rapid gain or lameness can be investigated.
Slow, steady development is more useful information than a single number. Nutrition, activity, illness, sex, parental size and the dog’s individual build all affect the curve.

What size crate does a Shiloh Shepherd need?
Choose a crate from the dog’s actual measurements, not breed name or weight alone. The dog should be able to stand without the back touching the roof, turn around normally and lie down fully. Recheck fit as the puppy grows.
Adult-size starting point
PetMD’s 2023 crate chart includes a 48 × 30 × 32-inch category for very large dogs. Treat that as a starting search size, not a guarantee: a particularly tall or long Shiloh may need a different configuration, and the internal usable space can be smaller than the outside dimensions.

Use a divider during puppyhood
A divider allows one adult-size crate to be partitioned as the puppy grows. The partition should leave enough room for standing, turning and lying down but not so much that the puppy can soil one end and sleep in the other. Remove or reposition it as measurements change.

A Shiloh breeder’s July 8, 2026 puppy-pickup guide recommends a temporary 28 × 20.5 × 21.5-inch plastic travel crate and explicitly notes that a puppy will quickly outgrow it. The same guide recommends a 30-inch exercise pen for stops and later home or yard use. Confirm that any travel crate is large enough for the individual puppy and secured appropriately for the vehicle; the temporary dimensions are not an adult recommendation.

How to compare a Shiloh Shepherd size claim
Before treating any number as “the” breed size, identify all six qualifiers:
- Organization: Which registry or club published it?
- Sex: Is it for a male, female or both?
- Category: Is the figure a minimum, typical range, ideal or maximum?
- Age: Is it a puppy measurement, an adult estimate or a 36-month maturity value?
- Method: Is height measured at the withers rather than head height?
- Condition: Does the weight assume a particular frame, muscle level or body-condition score?
Applying those labels explains why two apparently authoritative sources can publish different weights without either one describing every Shiloh Shepherd.
Breed-development context
ISSA describes the Shiloh Shepherd as still under development, with stewardship resting with registries and breed clubs. The breed is not currently recognized by the American Kennel Club, United Kennel Club or Fédération Cynologique Internationale, so there is no single globally binding standard that resolves every size difference. Ask a breeder which registry’s standard and lineage they follow, then evaluate the individual dog’s condition rather than selecting for the heaviest possible adult.
