The 8 Best Air Purifiers for Pets of 2026

The Blueair Blue Pure 211+ is the best all-round air purifier for many pet households, while smaller rooms and large homes may call for different picks. Compare CADR, filter types and maintenance needs—and remember that purifiers supplement, rather than replace, cleaning and grooming.

For most large pet households, the Blueair Blue Pure 211+ is the best all-round choice; the GermGuardian Airsafe+ suits a smaller room, while the Alen BreatheSmart 75i is a better fit for a large living area. A purifier can reduce airborne dander and some odor-bearing gases, but it will not remove settled fur or replace grooming, cleaning and ventilation.

These eight models are the strongest choices in Good Housekeeping’s April 2026 pet-air-purifier roundup, which combined laboratory measurements, home evaluations and filter-maintenance checks. The picks below are separated by the situation they suit best, because a large advertised room-size figure does not necessarily mean faster cleaning.

The 8 best air purifiers for pets

1. Blueair Blue Pure 211+ — best overall

The Blue Pure 211+ is the easiest all-round recommendation for a large room where a dog or cat spends much of the day. Its washable fabric pre-filter catches larger particles such as fur before they load the main filter, while True HEPA filtration handles airborne fine particles and activated carbon helps with some household odors.

  • Recommended coverage: 540 sq. ft.
  • Listed CADR: 350 CFM for smoke, dust and pollen
  • Filter setup: washable fabric pre-filter, True HEPA and activated carbon

Do not confuse this recommendation with the newer Blue Pure 211+ Auto. Blueair’s manual lists the Auto model at a 550-square-foot recommended room size, with separate CADR figures of 353 CFM for smoke, 347 CFM for dust and 380 CFM for pollen. Those are similar, but they are not identical model specifications.

The 211+ is a better fit for an open living room than a small bedroom. Its usefulness will also depend on keeping the fabric pre-filter clean; a layer of fur and dust over the intake restricts airflow before the HEPA filter can do its job.

2. GermGuardian Airsafe+ — best value

The GermGuardian Airsafe+ makes sense when the purifier will serve one bedroom, office or other modest-sized room rather than an entire floor. It combines an activated-carbon pre-filter with True HEPA filtration and has enough performance for small-to-medium spaces without the price or footprint of a larger unit.

  • Recommended coverage: 215 sq. ft.
  • Filter setup: activated-carbon pre-filter and True HEPA
  • Main compromise: comparatively noisy on its highest setting

That last point matters for light sleepers and nervous pets. You may get better practical results by running it continuously on a quieter setting than by using maximum power only when the room already smells or looks dusty.

3. Rabbit Air MinusA2 — most space-efficient

The Rabbit Air MinusA2 is the standout choice when floor space is scarce. It can be wall-mounted, making it useful in a compact apartment, a crowded living room or a room where a curious dog might knock over a freestanding appliance.

  • Recommended coverage: 815 sq. ft.
  • CADR: 180 CFM smoke, 200 CFM pollen and 193 CFM dust
  • Filter setup: pre-filter, True HEPA, activated carbon and customizable pet filter

The generous coverage number should not be read as a promise of rapid cleaning at that size. Its CADR is lower than several large-room competitors, so compare the airflow figures as well as the square-foot claim.

This model includes an ionization mode. Good Housekeeping recommends leaving ionization off, and that is the safer default: EPA warns that ionizers and related electronic air-cleaning technologies may emit ozone, a lung irritant.

4. Clorox True HEPA Medium Air Purifier 11010 — most versatile

The Clorox 11010 is a useful middle-ground machine for a pet’s main room. It has a pre-filter, True HEPA filter and activated carbon, plus an onboard air-quality sensor that can adjust or indicate operation as conditions change.

  • Recommended coverage: 225 sq. ft.
  • Maximum listed coverage: 1,000 sq. ft.
  • CADR: 206 CFM smoke, 232 CFM pollen and 219 CFM dust

The recommended and maximum figures describe different performance expectations, so use 225 square feet when choosing it for effective routine cleaning. Clorox also sells an Alexa-enabled version with app and voice control; confirm that you are buying the connected model if those features matter.

5. Coway Airmega 200M — best for heavy-shedding pets

The Airmega 200M is well suited to homes where the pre-filter will collect a noticeable amount of fur and dust. Its pre-filter is washable or easy to clean, reducing the amount of debris that reaches the True HEPA and activated-carbon stages.

  • Recommended coverage: 361 sq. ft.
  • Maximum listed coverage: 874 sq. ft.
  • CADR: 246 smoke, 249 dust and 277 pollen
  • Noise range listed by Coway: 24.4–55.1 dB
  • Filter life: up to 6–12 months, depending on the filter component

There is an important qualification for households with respiratory sensitivities: Coway identifies a bipolar ionizer, called the Vital Ion System, as part of this unit. EPA says ionizers and similar electronic technologies may emit ozone. Check the current model’s ozone certification and whether the ionization feature can be disabled before purchasing.

6. Honeywell InSight HEPA Air Purifier — most responsive

Honeywell’s InSight model is the pick for owners who want feedback rather than a purifier that operates as a silent box in the corner. Its built-in VOC sensor and color-coded air-quality indicator show when the measured air conditions change.

  • GENUINE REPLACEMENT FILTERS: For the best performance and longest lifespan, use official Levoit filters designed specifically for Levoit air purifiers. Levoit replacement filters ensure the best fit and high-efficiency filtration, while off-brand filters may be unreliable and may damage your Levoit air purifier
  • FIND COMFORT: Our filter has strong filtration performance of fine particles. 99.97% filtration efficiency for 0.1 to 0.3μm airborne particulates, including pollen, dust, and animal dander allergens. Tested by an independent lab
  • Recommended coverage: 360 sq. ft.
  • Filter setup: pre-filter and True HEPA filter
  • Review-listed replacement filter cost: about $25 (Good Housekeeping figure checked August 8, 2026)

Honeywell offers specialty replacement filters aimed at pet allergens, smoke and VOCs, but filter compatibility is model-specific. Match the replacement filter to the purifier’s exact model number instead of assuming every Honeywell pet or odor filter will fit.

7. Dyson Purifier Humidify+Cool Formaldehyde — most innovative

This Dyson is for someone who wants several functions in one appliance. It combines air purification with a fan and humidifier, measures particles, temperature and humidity, and reports readings through the Dyson app. Its filtration system includes a fabric pre-filter, True HEPA filtration and a catalytic filter.

  • Recommended coverage: 800 sq. ft.
  • Review-listed replacement filter cost: about $80 (Good Housekeeping figure checked August 8, 2026)
  • Best use: homes where cooling, humidity control and air monitoring are also priorities

It is not simply a pet-hair machine. The humidifier adds maintenance: owners must follow the cleaning and water-care instructions as well as replace the air filter. If you only need particle filtration in one room, a simpler purifier may be easier and less expensive to maintain.

8. Alen BreatheSmart 75i — best for large homes

The Alen BreatheSmart 75i is the largest-capacity option in this group and is designed for a big living area or a large open-plan home. Its True HEPA filter has an activated-carbon layer, and Good Housekeeping lists a pollen/dust CADR of 347.

  • Recommended coverage: 1,300 sq. ft.
  • Listed pollen/dust CADR: 347
  • Review-listed replacement filter cost: about $100 (Good Housekeeping figure checked August 8, 2026)

The correct model name is BreatheSmart 75i, not “751i.” Some review copy uses the latter as an apparent typo, but Alen’s model-identification and manual pages confirm 75i.

An optional ionization setting is available, but Good Housekeeping does not recommend using it. Leave it off unless you have verified the relevant ozone information and have a specific reason to enable it.

How to choose an air purifier for a dog or cat

Use CADR to compare cleaning speed

CADR, or clean air delivery rate, is more useful than a large room-size headline when comparing machines. Good Housekeeping recommends a CADR of at least two-thirds of the room’s area. For a 300-square-foot room, that means roughly 200 CFM or more.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Coverage figures can be based on different air-change assumptions. A purifier advertised for 1,000 square feet may clean that area more slowly than a lower-capacity unit cleans 300 square feet. For a pet room, choose a model with enough CADR for the actual room and run it consistently.

Know what each filter stage does

Contaminant Helpful feature What to expect
Fur and larger dust Pre-filter Captures larger debris before it reaches the main filter; it still needs frequent cleaning.
Airborne dander and fine particles Mechanical HEPA filter Removes particles from the air while they are airborne; it cannot collect dander already settled on furniture.
Some pet and litter-box odors Activated carbon Adsorbs some gases and odors. More carbon generally provides more odor capacity, but no purifier eliminates the need to clean the source.

EPA defines a True HEPA filter as removing at least 99.97% of particles at 0.3 microns. That figure should not be casually rewritten as “99.97% down to 0.1 microns.” The 0.3-micron test point represents the most penetrating particle size; performance can be better for particles larger or smaller than that. Any 0.1-micron claim should be attributed to the specific manufacturer or test.

Skip or disable ozone-producing features

Ionizers, electrostatic precipitators, plasma systems and some UV technologies may emit ozone. EPA advises avoiding portable air cleaners that intentionally produce ozone. This is particularly worth checking when shopping for a pet household or for anyone with asthma or other respiratory sensitivities.

Match the purifier to the pet’s real activity zone

A portable purifier treats one room or area, not automatically the whole house. Put it near the room where the pet sleeps or spends the most time, while keeping the intake and outlet clear of walls, curtains, furniture and piles of bedding. A purifier wedged behind a sofa cannot move air efficiently.

How to get better results from a pet air purifier

  1. Vacuum and groom first. Removing fur and dander at the source prevents the purifier from carrying the entire load.
  2. Wash pet bedding regularly. Bedding is a concentrated reservoir of hair, skin flakes and odor.
  3. Clean the pre-filter on schedule. In a heavy-shedding home, inspect it more often than the generic maintenance interval suggests.
  4. Run the purifier continuously when practical. Lower, quieter operation over many hours is usually more useful than a short blast after the room is already contaminated.
  5. Keep doors and windows in mind. Ventilation can help, but outdoor smoke, pollen or poor weather conditions may change whether opening windows improves the room.
  6. Replace filters according to the manual. A saturated carbon layer loses odor capacity, while a loaded particle filter restricts airflow.

Source control remains the first step: clean accidents and litter areas, wash fabrics, groom the animal and improve ventilation when appropriate. Filtration is a supplement, not a substitute for those measures.

Pet Air Purifier for Home Large Room 2500 Sq Ft, H13 HEPA Double-Sided Filter with Washable Pre-filter, Adsorbs Pet Hair Dander Odor Allergies Smoke Dust,PM2.5 Air Quality Monitor,Auto Mode,P358 Grey
  • Designed for Airborne Pet Hair: Dual-sided U-shaped air inlets and a pet-specific pre-filter adsorbs pet hair, dander and dust before they settle Unlike traditional grille or perforated air inlets that can easily become covered or clogged with pet hair, the P358’s unique U-shaped air intake is less prone to clogging, helping maintain smooth, continuous airflow for more consistent pet hair collection. For hair that has already settled on floors, sofas, or bedding, regular vacuuming is recommended.
  • Helps Reduce Everyday Pet Odors: The activated carbon layer helps adsorb some airborne litter box odors, pet smells, cooking fumes, and other light household odors, while the H13 HEPA filter is primarily designed to filter fine airborne particles. Actual odor improvement may vary depending on odor concentration, room size, ventilation, and filter condition. For better results, place the purifier near the odor source, keep both side air inlets unobstructed, and replace the filter regularly.
  • Quiet and Easy for Everyday Use: Sleep Mode operates at noise levels as low as 25 dB and turns off the display lights. Five fan speeds, a timer, Pet Lock, and a filter replacement reminder make daily air management easier. Pet Mode: During periods of heavy shedding, use Pet Mode to increase airflow, or switch to Auto Mode to automatically adjust operation based on the detected PM2.5 level.
  • Compact Footprint, Wide-Area Coverage: The P358 pet air purifier has a footprint about the size of an A4 sheet of paper. Its extra-large dual-sided air inlets draw in air from both sides, providing up to twice the purification speed of traditional single-inlet models. With a CADR of up to 176 CFM (295 m³/h), it can refresh the air in spaces up to 2,500 sq. ft. (approximately 232 m²) once per hour. Ideal for bedrooms, living rooms, offices, nurseries, kitchens, basements, apartments, and more.
  • Save 50% Filter Costs: Our replacement filter includes electrostatic pre-filter pads and a composite filter. While standard air purifier filters may last up to 3 months, our replaceable electrostatic pre-filter pads can help extend the life of the main HEPA filter from 3 to 6 months, helping reduce replacement costs by 50%. For genuine replacement filters, search for ASIN B0H2W6V5LJ for the composite filter or ASIN B0H7SDXLPG for the pre-filter pads. Filter dimensions: 1.0 in. (D) × 10.2 in. (W) × 11.3 in. (H).

How we chose these recommendations

The lineup is based primarily on Good Housekeeping’s April 9, 2026 roundup, which included laboratory testing, home evaluations, filter-maintenance checks and more than 50 hours of data review. Manufacturer manuals and product pages were used to distinguish current model specifications, particularly for the Blueair 211+ versus 211+ Auto and the correct Alen BreatheSmart 75i name. EPA guidance was used for HEPA terminology, portable-purifier limitations and ozone-related cautions.

FAQ

Do air purifiers really help with pet dander?

Yes, a purifier with a mechanical HEPA filter can reduce airborne dander and other fine particles while they are circulating. It will not remove dander already settled on floors, furniture or bedding, so vacuuming, grooming and washing fabrics are still necessary.

What size air purifier do I need for a pet room?

Start with the room’s actual square footage and compare CADR rather than relying only on the largest advertised coverage number. A useful rule from Good Housekeeping is a CADR of at least two-thirds of the room area; a 300-square-foot room therefore needs about 200 CFM or more.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will an air purifier remove dog or cat odor?

Activated carbon can reduce some odor-bearing gases, but results depend on how much carbon the filter contains and how strong the source is. It will not replace cleaning accidents, litter boxes, upholstery or pet bedding.

Are ionizers safe to use around pets?

Ionizers and related electronic air-cleaning technologies may emit ozone, which can irritate the lungs. EPA advises avoiding portable air cleaners that intentionally produce ozone. If a purifier includes ionization, leave it off unless you have checked the specific model’s ozone information and disable option.

The Bottom Line

For most large pet households, the Blueair Blue Pure 211+ offers the best balance of airflow, coverage and pet-friendly filter stages. Choose the GermGuardian Airsafe+ for a smaller room and lower-cost setup, the Rabbit Air MinusA2 when wall mounting matters, or the Alen BreatheSmart 75i for a genuinely large living area. Whichever model you buy, place it near the pet’s main activity zone, keep its pre-filter clear and continue the cleaning routine that removes pollutants before they reach the air.
