An anemone’s progress and a new aquarium are worth celebrating—but whether the tank is ready for an anemone depends on its species, size, and water conditions. The species and setup details here are not established, so the care figures below are general guidance, not a report of this animal’s health or the new aquarium’s readiness.
What “doing well” can—and cannot—tell you
The title doesn’t identify the anemone or describe its behavior, so it isn’t possible to assess its health from that alone. Anemone care varies by species: bubbletip (Entacmaea quadricolor), carpet (Stichodactyla haddoni), and rock flower (Epicystis crucifer) anemones, for example, do not have identical needs. OATA’s anemone care sheet discusses several species and gives general guidance; identify the animal before treating group-level figures as a care plan.

Observations worth tracking
Watch the mouth, tentacle extension, color, tissue size, feeding, and movement. OATA advises investigating persistent movement, which can be a response to stress. These signs are useful to monitor, but no single observation establishes a diagnosis.

A newly assembled aquarium should be cycled and stable before livestock is introduced. OATA recommends confirming that ammonia and nitrite are zero. Add livestock gradually: the beneficial bacteria that process waste need time to adjust, and stocking too quickly can cause new tank syndrome.

OATA gives at least 80 litres as a general guide for most anemones, while larger species such as carpet anemones may need more space. Because neither the species nor the new aquarium’s volume and age are known, that guidance cannot establish whether this particular setup is suitable.
General water targets from OATA
These are OATA’s general recommendations for anemones, not readings from either aquarium or universal thresholds for every species. Confirm species-specific requirements and monitor actual water conditions.

Equipment and safeguards the setup needs
OATA says anemones need filtration, suitable overhead lighting for photosynthetic nutrition, and adequate water movement. The right light and flow depend on the species. Filtration may be provided by live rock with sufficient flow, an internal or external filter, or a sump-based filter; a protein skimmer can help remove dissolved organic waste.

Ongoing checks matter in both aquariums
OATA recommends testing at least weekly for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, hardness, and temperature. Keep a record of readings so changes are easier to spot, and continue observing the anemone’s movement, feeding, and physical condition. A description such as “doing well” is most useful when paired with those concrete observations and stable test results.
OATA also notes that anemones are not essential for keeping clownfish: many available clownfish are tank-bred and may never have encountered one. A new aquarium therefore does not, by itself, mean an anemone is needed.
